K3 Mufflied audio - new issue

Keith Heimbold
I was operating tonight after some fun this weekend working some nice DX since conditions were so great. I decided for some reason to listen to my audio on my K3 serial 1391 and it sounded really muffled.  I switched to my other K3 and everything sounded perfect with same two headsets switching back and forth.  There seems to be something weird going on with 1391.  I am not sure if I should do a reset or if there is some other procedure I should run through.  Using the headsets on 1526 eliminates the possibility of a headset issue.

The audio sounds somewhat clear but with a muffled background noise which is difficult to describe.  Usually my audio is super crisp and clean (that is what people tell me).  Not sure what has transpired.  I was considering doing a reset but thought might be a little extreme.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

Re: K3 Mufflied audio - new issue

Keith,

You mention 2 K3s, so that brings up the question of "what are you
listening to".
There is a difference if you are listening to K3#1 while transmitting on
K3#2, compared with listening on either K3 while listening to the TX
monitor.

Please tell us whether what you are hearing is the result of your own TX
monitoring or if that is the result orf a proper signal transmitted over
the air (into a dummy load for consistency..

Re: K3 Mufflied audio - new issue

Keith Heimbold
Hi Don,

I am hearing a muffled echo and some strange over compression with my normal settings in monitor.

A local friend and I were changing the settings to lower compression and mic gain and it was better but it still remained.

I changed to the other rig using the same antenna and headset (used on other rig) and my report was beautiful sounding audio with no muffling or issues with echo.

I am working through a complete reset now to factory. Thought it might help.

I will report back if this helps the situation.

Thanks,

Keith

Do you have the noise gate turned on?

Re: K3 Mufflied audio - new issue

Keith Heimbold
Not sure what happened but after a full reset everything is beautiful again.
Transmit audio is as it should be.  I wish I would have saved previous
settings but it didn't take too long to get most of them back to normal.  It
was actually fun to go through the configurations because I am ashamed to
say that they have not changed since I purchased this rig from K2MLB.

Thanks,

Keith

Re: K3 Mufflied audio - new issue

In reply to this post by Don Wilhelm-4
All -

I decided to reset the K3 and unfortunately cannot find the config file.  I
am trying to get it back running and am running into a couple issues.

1) I am getting a ERR BP4 error.  I have removed the KP BF3 from the KRX3 as
per instructions.
2) When doing the transmit calibration, I am getting a BND END error on 80
and 40 (am stopped here trying to figure out what is up).  When keying into
the dummy load the transmit frequency drops 600 KHz to below 80m band.

This is as far as I have gotten to getting my K3 back to running shape.  Any
thoughts on 1) and 2) above would be really helpful!!!

Thanks,

Keith

I figured it out.  I feel like a dummy load myself today.  I had an offset
on since I am running this into the dummy load using FM that through me out
of the band.  I am all good with transmitter gain config.  Sorry to bother
everyone. Ok now on to the next step.
