Not sure about the CR issue, but I use vox. You can set your delay to suit
semi bk in , but qsk works well with it.
Have you tried the vox setting? If you are trying the keyboard slow it down
to your type speed etc, I use 20wpm qsk.
No extra character issues using vox in any case.
I had a bit of fun using the paddle to send rtty in fsk d before and I was
very impressed how well it worked looking
at my tx text.
It is nice to break the dependency on a pc for this stuff.

Subject: [Elecraft] [K3] P3SVGA Data Terminal in CW Mode
When I push the ENTER key on my keyboard the CW buffer is transmitted, but
there is an extra character (letter) at the end of the string that I did not
enter into the buffer. Has anyone else experience this? If so, what did
you do to eliminate this unwanted character?
In the Transmit Mode and Setup screen I set up the parameters as follows:
Transmit Mode = CR
Transmit Timeout = 0
Thanks, Roy Morris W4WFB
