I would appreciate some help with setting up the K3 for PSK. I am not clear as to what settings to use or just how to get them set. There appear to be three issues of concern.
1. K3 Line-In 2. Sound card output level 3. KL3 ALC I have set the K3 Line-in at 15. I am using a E-MU 0202/USB external sound card. I'm not sure how to set the output level ... And so far I haven't found a way to adjust the ALC to 4 bars in the Data A mode. I must be missing a step somewhere. I've searched the various "threads" but have yet to get it all sorted out. Start your PSK program, place it into transmit and adjust the K3 Line In level for four to five bars of ALC. Adjust your power out with the K3 power control not Line In. 73, ... Joe,
I figure your EMU 0202 is not your default soundcard. The volume control 'connected' with the speaker icon near the clock only applies to the default soundcard. Open the Control Panel, then double click Sounds and Audio Devices Properties. In the window that opens, click the Audio tab - that will show the default soundcard for playback (recording and midi too, but not of immediate concern). Click the down-arrow to the right of the box showing the soundcard, then select the EMU 0202 from that list. Now click on the Volume button which will open the sliders for the EMU 0202 soundcard. Move the Wave slider near to the top and then close that window. Now go back to the default device for playback and select your normal soundcard (for computer sounds), then click OK to close the window. You now should have more output from the EMU 0202. Test it by connecting speakers and listen to the PSK31 - if there is none, check your PSK31 application to be certain it is using the EMU 0202 for output. Got output from the EMU 0202? Good, now connect it to the K3 Line-in jack. Set TX TEST and the mode to DATA A. Transmit from your PSK31 application and set the Line-in level to obtain 3 to 4 bars on the ALC display. Get out of TX TEST and it should transmit. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/22/2011 1:05 PM, JA STAPLES wrote: > I would appreciate some help with setting up the K3 for PSK. Hi Joe;
As it turns out I have the exact set-up you do - an EMU 0202 USB external and a K3. When I follow the directions for setting levels on a K3 here are the numbers I get: Soundcard Wave level in Windows XP: 22 (of 100) Line level on K3: 9-10 (of 60 This usually gives me three solid bars and two more flickering on the K3. I have wondered if having such a hot line level is hurting me at all. Ideally I would like to see the K3's line level near 30 - or half way. But when I do that the Wave level in Windows cannot be st low enough. Make me think I need some line attenuation.
