Can the rig be turned on/off with a software command? That would make
it perfect for remote control. Rich - N5ZC _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Rich,
I had not seen a reply to this. Yes, there is a feature to turn the rig on and off via the DB15 Accy port. Thanks. 73 Greg AB7R -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]]On Behalf Of Richard Thorne Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2007 7:13 PM To: Elecraft Subject: [Elecraft] K3: Power On/Off software control? We're looking into some sort of "wake on serial port activity" but that is not certain at this time. 73, Lyle KK7P _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. ...hmmm... If it can 'wake' on serial activity it wasn't really off.
It is probably too early to know but are we talking micro-amps or 100s of mills while in 'sleep'? If the radio is OFF and you use the contact closure provision on the rear panel, it is indeed OFF. If you use the alarm function, it is sleeping and drawing current. I don't recall the number offhand, but I think it is in the range of 50 to 300 mA. A "wake on serial port activity" would necessarily be in a similar range, which is part of the reason it doesn't yet -- and may not -- exist. 73, Lyle KK7P _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Lyle:
If I had a choice between the two I would go with wake on serial port activity. I'd rather not have to come up with a way to control a relay via remote to turn the radio on/off. Thanks for the info. The K3 has a very versatile real-time-clock chip that runs when the rig
is off. It draws about 3 microamps as I recall. If you have an alarm set, it will wake up the radio at the appointed time. There's also a "standby" mode (which I think Lyle was referring to) where everything is off but the time/date display and LCD backlight. The alarm can also wake up the radio from this condition. 73, Wayne N6KR --- http://www.elecraft.com _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Oh, no.... You mean it's always on even when it's off? I thought we killed
that thread last week. :-) Craig NZ0R KX1 #1499 K1 #1966 K2/100 #4941 K3/100 Somewhere between #20 and #220 -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Mark Bayern Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2007 9:29 PM To: Lyle Johnson Cc: Elecraft Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3: Power On/Off software control? ...hmmm...
