Chuck,
I use the key 2 line, key1 is jumpered to aux. I put a steering diode inside the qsk-5 as well, but I don't remember where! I suggest you call or email Ameritron--they'll tell you how to do it. The qsk-5 manual is confusing. 8ms delay works fine. One other warning--if you are using a W2 with the swr lock feature, DO NOT break the ptt line from the k3 to the qsk-5 switch to go through the W2. If the w2 goes into swr lock you will fry the qsk-5 switch and see the fuse lamps light up the room. Instead, break the line going from the qsk-5 to the amplifier ptt to go through the w2. Ask me how I learned this! The qsk-5 works great with the k3--silent, smooth QRO QSK. I use it with my AL-1200. 73, Eric WD6DBM Sent from my iPhone ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

If you're using an Ameritron amp, the internal switch (QSK-5PC) is just a lot cleaner and less complicated. One control line from Key Out on the K3 to the amp input. No fiddling, no jumpers or diodes, no timing issues. Just hook it up and go. I purchased my AL-1200 years ago (before the MFJ buyout) with the switch factory installed, and it is simple to use and smooth as silk. I installed the older PIN-5 internal switch on an AL-80A before that, same thing. I bought two QSK kits from Phil Salas, AD5X. One for my Dentron Clipperton and one for my ALS-600. I installed the one in my Clipperton last week. I am now 235 QSOs into the CQWWCW plus several QSOs the week before and it is going strong so far. The relays are so little that I expected a loud bang and smoke the first time I keyed, but not happening. It is fast enough that I have had some Qs at 40 WPM (No I can't send that fast, but my computer can!) They were only a little over 30 bucks and not too hard to install. I can let you know when I get the ALS 600 on line. Look in the June 2009 QST for more info, but don't rely on QST for the pin out on the relays.

I have had Phil's QSK kit in my ALS600 (before the article appeared in QST)
for almost a year now with *WONDERFUL* results. Perfect QSK! It makes this amplifier a real pleasure to use on CW. Took about an hour to install in to the amplifier and was extremely simple to make. I purchased Phil's board as well. -lu-w4lt- K3 #3192 Date: Sat, 28 Nov 2009 12:26:30 -0800 (PST) From: WILLIS COOKE <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 QSK-5 connection To: Grant Youngman <[hidden email]>, Elecraft Reflector <[hidden email]> Message-ID: <[hidden email]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 I bought two QSK kits from Phil Salas, AD5X.?
