Sending a string of DITS using an external keyer, and in QSK mode, I can hear receiver noise between the dits until about 19 WPM. At that point the receiver is muted, so 20wpm or greater on my radio as it sits, there is no QSK. :-( Is there a firmware adjustment that will improve this? I have no problem hearing 40m BC carriers between dits at 40 wpm using N1MM as an external keyer (via RS-232 cable), so you've got an excessive delay somewhere else in your settings. 73, Dave AB7E Don Rasmussen wrote: > Sending a string of DITS using an external keyer, and in QSK mode, I can hear receiver noise between the dits until about 19 WPM. > > At that point the receiver is muted, so 20wpm or greater on my radio as it sits, there is no QSK. :-( > > Is there a firmware adjustment that will improve this? > > TIA, > Don > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

You certainly have something wrong. At 20 wpm in QSK mode, I can not only
hear between dits but can almost understand what an AM station is saying! At 50 wpm I can hear the distinct clicks as a carrier from a BC station pops through. Think I have it, had set TX DLY to 20, it is normally 8. Somehow I considered this would only apply to VOX mode. ??? Set it back to 8 and QSK is good again. Don and all,
This is not a specific comment on your situation, I am just using it as one example. IF everyone would read through the menu settings for the radio, I believe a lot of these type questions would be answered. Yes, a bit of logical thought about the effects of each setting is in order too, but an understanding of the configuration settings available in any radio (the K3 included) can be had by just looking through the available menu settings - "it is in the manual" (plus a few of the K3 firmware release notes for the new functions). For *all* radios with menu settings, an understanding of the menu items available will help you to set up the radio the way you want it. It is true for the Yaesu 817, the K2 and the K3 and many others. You do not know the radio until you know what is contained in the menus. 73, Don W3FPR Don Rasmussen wrote: > Think I have it, had set TX DLY to 20, it is normally 8.
