Hi Joe,
Split works the same as with CW or SSB. But if you are seeing SPL N/A on the lower display it is because VFO-B is not set to the same mode as VFO-A. This is easily resolved by first pressing the A/B button twice. By doing so you will copy relevant information such as mode from VFO-A to VFO-B. Then when you hold the SPLIT button you will be transmitting in AFSK A mode on whatever frequency is displayed in the VFO-B window.
If you have a P3 you can see your separate transmit frequency and you can move it around for a clear spot or to jump on a previously occupied frequency as needed.
If you also have the dual receiver option your computer software might have the capability of displaying a decode window for VFO-B. This feature is called CLONE by MMTTY software (and its plug-ins for WriteLog and others). It is necessary to tell the clone window that the audio for the VFO-B decode window is coming in on the right stereo channel.
