K3 Receive Question

Larry Boekeloo
Hi to all...

The other evening, VK0KEV was on 15 phone, 21.314 to be exact, at about 9 pm local time in Michigan.  I tuned the K3 to his frequency and could tell he was there but not good enough to copy if he came back to my call.  I switched to my FT-1000MP Mark V and not only could I tell he was there but he I could have copied my call if in fact he would have come back to me.  I switched back and forth between the two rigs for quite some time and the K3 was always marginal copy.  I've noticed this on 10 meters before too.  Am I the only one with this?

Thanks

Larry, KN8N

Was the preamp switched on?  Did you have the attenuator engaged?  For
the higher bands, you generally need the Attenuator OFF and the Ppreamp
ON to hear weaker signals.  As I recall, the MP defaults to that
setting. And, of course, you will want to narrow up the IF to something
like 2kHz.
