SPLIT+2 is my second favorite MACRO
PF1 = SPKR+PH # Very useful if using the back panel phone jacks. PF2 = SPLIT+2 The SPLIT+2 is so valuable, why is it not a standard front panel setting? Maybe A>B triple hit. Or a new option for the A>B double hit to also do the +2 and SPLIT on. And free up PF# for the next favorite macro. With the P3, it is so nice. Enter SPLIT+2 and the RED VFO B marker turns on with it's +2 offset frequency. Really nice single button user friendly SPLIT transition! If you use DXLab's Commander rig control program, it has buttons to do quick
splits up or down 1, 2, 5, and 10 kHz. http://www.dxlabsuite.com/ Another technique is to set VFO B on the DX station and tune the pileup with the larger VFO A knob with split turned off. I plug a Radio Shack stereo audio switch into the K3's speaker jack. I can switch between speakers and two different headphones with the switch. I must set up a macro in N1MM for SPLIT. The number of times
instead of holding the button to select or cancel SPLIT I just pressed it and made VFO B = VFO A.... !! GRRRR !! It's the only something I really HATE about my K3. If I remember correctly, this can be made to do B>A - I guess you could ask for an option to switch B>A to go to A>B in place of SPLIT and put SPLIT as hold REV
to me it's just a case of learning to tap or hold correctly! Having said that, the one thing I do find annoying is VOX, since I use it so much, I would have preferred it to be on it's own button, and I find I often change band instead of vox. 73 de M0XDF, K3 #174, P3 #108, KX3 #??? -- It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. You don't need a macro in N1MM, Stewart. The feature is already there.
In N1MM, type ALT+F7 and it will open a window where you enter the kHz offset from the low end band edge. For example on 40m if a DX station says he's listening on 7234, type ALT+F7 then type 234 in the window. Hit ENTER and the K3's VFO B is put on 7234 and the K3 is put in the SPLIT mode. Hitting Alt+F7 again and hitting Enter with the window empty clears the split and puts everything back on VFO A. Simple and efficient. No diddling with the K3's buttons. And it works for any split, 2kHz or 200kHz, doesn't matter, just type it in. 73, Ted W4NZ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]]On Behalf Of Stewart Sent: Monday, October 31, 2011 4:56 AM To: John Oppenheimer; [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 SPLIT+2 I must set up a macro in N1MM for SPLIT. Hi Ted,
Many thanks for the info. I thought that I knew N1MM quite well, but I had missed that feature. When my head recovers from the contest I will try it. The other thing I was looking for was the ability to directly enter a frequency into VFO B, however it looks like the only way to do it is by entering in VFO A and swapping (unless someone knows different :-)) 73 Stewart G3RXQ On Mon, 31 Oct 2011 07:28:48 -0400, Ted Bryant wrote: > You don't need a macro in N1MM, Stewart. "...The other thing I was looking for was the ability to directly enter a
frequency into VFO B..." Hi Stewart, First, you must be configured for SO2V (single-radio, two-vfo), then in the callsign field of the Entry window type a forward slash, "/" + the frequency, ie. /28450 and it will put VFO B on that frequency. 73, Ted W4NZ -----Original Message----- From: Stewart [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Monday, October 31, 2011 8:10 AM To: Stewart; Ted Bryant; [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 SPLIT+2 Tried it, works a treat ! 73 Stewart G3RXQ On Mon, 31 Oct 2011 11:48:35 GMT, Stewart wrote: > Hi Ted, > Many thanks for the info. Sorry, what I should have said is "directly enter a frequency into VFO B
using the K3's buttons". What some other radios call NOR/REV is called ALT on the K3 - it's a hold of the left end of the MODE button. I don't think that's what you mean. There is a button labelled REV on the K3, but it has nothing to do with NOR/REV modes. It's used to listen on your transmit frequency while in Split mode. There is no tap vs. hold with this button - it temporarily reverses VFOs A and B whenever it is in the depressed position. Changing this so that a hold activated a Split+2 macro function would destroy its primary function. 73, Rich VE3KI ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
