For all you guys in the US, I have listed below the alternative shipping costs for my K3 order which I'll place soon. I live in South Australia.
US Postal Priority Mail International = $131 US Postal Express Mail International = $164 UPS Worldwide Expedited = $372 UPS Worldwide Express = $410 How risky is it to use the US Postal service? I'm worried about the delivery taking a month or two and the package arriving in more bits than when it was sent. Thanks, Shane VK5ABQ |

Does it have to be shipped upside down to work properly in Australia?
|
|
No but it goes down the drain anti-clockwise.

Hey we have electrons here too you know. They deserve as much chance as U.S. electrons to power a radio.
You guys are just jealous that we're now a fatter nation than you.

I didn't get the option of using the postal service here to the UK because the maximum insurance was not enough to cover the value of the shipment. I assume that you just looked at the website, which doesn't understand this, rather than contacting Elecraft Sales direct.

The on-line UPS shipping calculator shows prices on the high side for
international shipping. We have a discount with UPS to many countries and will charge you less than this. (We will always confirm the order details and shipping expense on international orders with you before shipping.) 73, Eric WA6HHQ _..._ Shane White wrote: > For all you guys in the US, I have listed below the alternative shipping > costs for my K3 order which I'll place soon. W9DHI suggested, after NZ0T asked VK5ABQ if it would
have to be shipped up-side-down: >No but it goes down the drain anti-clockwise. <snip> > >> For all you guys in the US, I have listed below the alternative shipping > >> costs for my K3 order which I'll place soon. Correct: anti-clockwise as opposed to counter-clockwise. ;^) Amazingly, I have yet to have USPS destroy anything & I used to bring a lot of stuff out this way. Can't say the same about QSLs, though. ;^( Ask for the manual to be left out (very heavy) & if you really do not trust USPS & wish to insure for the full amount, have something packed separately - such as the KPA. 73, VR2/KBrett7Graham/p. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. That seems odd considering I had to enter my country and post code. Wouldn't this make the quotes provided meaningless? |

Hi Shane and everyone,
This may not be much of a help, but I am an Aussie amateur who has bought a K2 and KAT100, KPA100 and other accessories from Elecraft. I have always specified USPS (the US Postal Service) and so far, have not had a problem, except that in two small parcels a toroid has arrived broken. Elecraft replaced these promptly The Australian Customs / Australian Post Office normally do not charge the 10% GST unless the value of the parcel plus postage exceeds AUD1000.00 I can not say for certain that this is their absolute policy - just my experience so far. USPS air mail options normally get here within 10 business days. This time includes freight from Aptos, all the security checks at this end and delivery to my door. I do not think that the extra charged by the couriers for three day delivery is worth it. 73 Kevin VK3DAP / ZL2DAP Shane White wrote: > For all you guys in the US, I have listed below the alternative shipping > costs for my K3 order which I'll place soon. I guess whoever coded the website didn't do it to take account of the value of the shipment, only its weight. Eric has already replied to the effect that UPS costs to some countries are less than those shown on the site so the short answer to your question is probably yes.

Hello Kevin,
The prices of ham gears in Hong Kong are far lower than that in VK. Therefore, I often help Aussie hams in sourcing their gears from Hong Kong though I am not a radio dealer. To my knowledge, postal service is seldom challenged by VK customs. As long as you declare the items as amateur radio kits and under A$1,000, you have no need to pay any GST. One more point - don't send two parcels together in one go. Otherwise, VK customs will add up the total value of all the parcels and charge you GST accordingly. 73 Johnny Siu VR2XMC --- 2008年6月26日 星期四,KBG Luxford <[hidden email]> 寫道﹕ > 寄件人: KBG Luxford <[hidden email]> > 主題: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Shipping Costs to Australia > 收件人: "Shane White" <[hidden email]> > 副本(CC): [hidden email] > 日期: 2008 6 26 星期四 下午 12:38 > Hi Shane and everyone, > > This may not be much of a help, but I am an Aussie amateur > who has > bought a K2 and KAT100, KPA100 and other accessories from > Elecraft. Hello, My second K3 have just arrived. Elecraft charged me a USPS cost of US$145 whereas the postal mark only indicated a postage of US$125. Out of my curiosity, I raised this to Lisa who confirmed that the extra US$20 is for handling charge of Elecraft. 4:10 > Shane White wrote: > > > I guess whoever coded the website didn't do it to take > account of the value > of the shipment, only its weight.
