K3 Split Release

James Denneny
I was calling a station working split on 30M.  I was up 5 calling.  I switched on SUB to listen to the pileup.  The next thing I knew SPLIT dropped out.  I did not notice that and I was calling on the DX freq with the cops telling me UP UP UP.  What an embarasment!!

I have no idea how this could happen.  SPLIT should only respond to the SPLIT button and not messing around with the SUB RX. Has anyone else experienced an unexpected loss of SPLIT mode?

Re: K3 Split Release

Jerry Flanders
I don't use split much, but I constantly lose RIT. I want RIT on all
the time and it is a nuisance to have it turned off randomly (this
happens on both of my two K3's)

Yes, the EXACT same thing happened to me yesterday, with the exact same key sequence, and of course, the exact same result! You're right -- embarrassing!

RE: K3 Split Release

Joe Subich, W4TV-3

The problem is that you are holding the Sub button
instead of tapping it.  If you "hold" you trigger
the Link/Diversity mode and kill split.

Joe, I agree, that would be a logical conclusion, but in my case, I only tapped the button. I'll keep a close eye on that situation to see if I can duplicate it.

On #202 with latest firmware, when I am in split mode and then turn on
the SubRx , the K3 stays Split in all modes (cw, ssb, AM). I have to tap
BSET button to take it out of split mode. I used it last night trying to
snag 9L1X. Worked fine and stayed split.

I can duplicate the problem if the button is held any
longer than absolutely necessary.  There seems to be
a critical time that is not quite long enough to be
a full "hold" but longer than an tap that will drop
"Split."
