I've tried to set the squelch on both of my K3's following the
instructions in the manual and display, but cannot make them work. I set them both to SQ MAIN = Sub Pot, but when I turn the Sub Pot I get the message "SQL N/A". What have I done wrong? Tom,
Are you in FM mode? Currently the squelch only works in FM. 73, Don W3FPR Radio Amateur N5GE wrote: > I've tried to set the squelch on both of my K3's following the > instructions in the manual and display, but cannot make them work. > > I set them both to SQ MAIN = Sub Pot, but when I turn the Sub Pot I > get the message "SQL N/A". > > What have I done wrong? > > Tom, N5GE > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

In playing with the scanning feature I've seen that there is some measure of squelch even in SSB, in that the receiver scans quietly until it encounters a signal and then pauses with the audio active for a time and then resumes scanning. My magic decoder ring has not pointed me to how the sensitivity or the delay time are adjusted, however. --- On Mon, 3/23/09, Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> wrote: > From: Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Squelch > To: [hidden email] > Cc: "Elecraft" <[hidden email]> > Date: Monday, March 23, 2009, 1:11 PM > Tom, > > Are you in FM mode? All-mode squelch is near the top of our firmware list.

I agree - If I do not find something relevant in the first few lines of
the post, I usually delete it. If you can surmise from that comment that *top posting* is important to me on an email reflector with as much traffic as we have here, then you are correct - I just don't have the available time nor patience to scroll down through a posting to find what has been added. By the same token, in-line additions may sometimes be warranted, but I believe that should be the exception. The "netiquite' stuff may be important in other discussions, but for what we are dealing with here, top posting is my preference. Note that Eric says either is OK, so I am expressing my personal opinion. 73, Don W3FPR [hidden email] wrote: > Folks, > > I find the following unreadable. Is it just me? The article that was claimed to be unreadable was a top posted article
quoting a top posted article. Top posting was not an issue here. The actual issue, was that, at least in the digest, a number of articles were posted with Content-Type: text/plain headers, but containing invalid HTML, which, on any reasonably compliant email program display as raw HTML. However Don's real issue seems to have been with people who fail to trim properly. Top posting almost guarantees that people will fail to prune, which is one of the reasons why the digests are so large. If you have to exit after each email or terminate reading by deleting, top postings hides this problem. If you are reading the digest, or have an email reader that pages across message boundaries, failure to prune forces one to wade through the whole back thread and, particular in digests, can make it difficult to find the next thread. IE's attach original mode is even worse, as Thunderbird displays the attached message as though it were an independent article, so one has to look very carefully to find the next real article. Incidentally, I consider email posted with only HTML to be a strong spam indicator and all postings with HTML variants to be newbie indicators. They also contribute to the high number of bytes on this list. For once, I am deliberately posting this badly, quoting the entire back thread including footers added by the reflector. Unfortunately, as I'm replying from a MIME digest, I can't add a copy of the footers added on the way out to me.
