Do any of you K3 users out there in Elecraft-land use an Icom PW-1 linear? I have a PW-1 that I use in concert with my Icom 756 Pro III. Now that I own a K3, which looks like it will be my primary rig, I am thinking about eventually feeding it to my PW-1. This raises a number of questions, chief among them is whether the PW-1 can follow the band switching of the K3.
Since most of my activity is CW and since I have never used my linear in CW mode with my Pro III, it is mostly likely that I would use the linear only with SSB. I am also thinking that down the road I may want to get another solid-state amplifier to be used with my K3. For this reason I am very interested in what future products might come out of Elecraft. Other then Elecraft in the future, has anyone used a Tokyo Hi-Power amp with a K3 and if so do they couple up well. Does the THP amp follow the K3 for band switching? Thanks for any comments or suggestions you might provide. 73, phil, K7PEH ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
I use a Yaesu Quadra with my K3. Requires a slight modification to the
cables that is not difficult. I think Wayne plans to implement Icom CIV protocol as an option at some point but not sure where it is on his priorities. You can also use something like the Microham MicrokeyerII which can provide CIV output. 73 Greg AB7R Phil Hystad wrote: > Do any of you K3 users out there in Elecraft-land use an Icom PW-1 linear? I've been very happy with the combination. Had a THP 1.5Kfx for a time, and its automatic bandswitching works well using a properly wired cable and Yaesu settings on the amp (my K3 has had the mods not found on earlier K3's incorporated into it by the factory, for builds after late 2008, I believe). 73, Lou, W0FK

Greg & Lou,
Thanks for your responses to my question about K3 and PW-1. So, it looks like I can use the PW-1 as long as I account for and operate in a manner safe for the PW-1 with no ALC and also do my own band-switching. Well, I just may consider buying a Tokyo Hi-Power amp but I am in no rush. I do want to wait and here more detailed rumors on anything that Elecraft might want to create for an S/S amp. But, if that is too far out I may decide to get the THP or maybe even something else (if something better). I will not be making any decisions in the next 6 months though. I think I will focus on racking up a WAS on my K3 CW mode in the mean time and I prefer 100 watts or less for that. 73, phil, K7PEH On Jan 17, 2010, at 6:22 PM, Greg wrote: > I use a Yaesu Quadra with my K3.
