While dabbling in the VHF contest this w/e, I noticed that there was low
level noise as I turned the main VFO knob. It just seemed to be on 6 meters. It wasn't a big problem, but I think some rigs have s/w options that take care of that, but I didn't see anything in the K3 menus. Should I pretend I didn't notice, or is there something I'm missing that will eliminate this? Joel, See "K3 VFO Noise Mod, Rev C" in the K3 App Notes: http://www.elecraft.com/K3/mods/K3_vfo_noise_mod_Rev_C.pdf Note: "This mod also requires new K3 f/w, mcu 3.25 or later." I don't know if your K3 predates the mod which was implemented in production "About 09/01/09 (RF board Rev H3) and later." 73, ... Hi Joel, This noise is typically not audible except on the highest bands with very little band noise (or no antenna). You have a choice of methods to eliminate it if necessary. All of the following settings are per-band so you only need to try them on affected bands: 1. Set MENU:VFO NR to ON. 2. If necessary, set MENU:RX SHFT to ON. 3. An alternative to (or supplement to) the above is to turn on the regular receive noise reduction by holding the NR switch. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Wayne,
Joel was talking about the K3, not the KX3. You certainly need a break from KX3 firmware optimization, don't you? ;-) 73, Olli - DH8BQA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wayne Burdick" <[hidden email]> To: "Joel Hallas" <[hidden email]> Cc: <[hidden email]> Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2012 8:13 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 VFO encoder noise? > Joel Hallas wrote: > >> While dabbling in the VHF contest this w/e, I noticed that there was >> low >> level noise as I turned the main VFO knob.
