Hello,

I wrote this email on the forum because I have the same problems as W1ZI.

Do I send the internal transverter to the states or is there any solution.

The serial of my K3 = 04972.

Thanks for reply.

Rudi...

I recently returned my new K144XV (Internal 2 meter transverter) to
Elecraft with the same problem...the transverter was (diagnosed by
Elecraft to be) self-oscillating and therefore producing drive to the
amp even though no audio was going in... It sounds to me that you have
the same problem.

My solution was to replace the internal transverter with the
external (kit) version XV144. This solution is somewhat unsatisfactory,
in that it adds yet another pendant device to the K3, but the
transverter works very nicely. The kit required a mod, provided at no
cost by Elecraft, to draw the LO crystal on frequency. I described this
in an earlier post.

Hello FM,

I have a K3 with internal VHF transverter, assembled by factory.

When I key (PTT) my K3 in USB on VHF with my amplifier my power supply is
reading 45 amp even when I have no modulation in USB.

When I do the same on HF, no meter reading only when I modulate in my
microphone.

Whats wrong, all info welcome.

Re: K3 VHF Problem

Guy, K2AV
Rudi,

Elecraft is not open on the weekends.  While you will find someone on the
Elecraft reflector just about anytime day or night, Elecraft does NOT offer
24/7 technical support.  You would pay a lot more for the rig if they did.

And while a few Elecraft employees sometimes do post to the reflector on
weekends, they all have families and private lives too.  And Monday was a
federal holiday here in the US (President's day).  No post office, no banks,
etc.  Most people make three day weekend plans with families on these
weekends + Monday holiday.

Since you are so far ahead of California (8 or 9 hours), they were just
coming back to work Tuesday morning after the extended weekend about the
same time you were sitting down to Tuesday supper.  Then they will be
catching up with the email backlog.

They are not ignoring you.

73, Guy.

Hi Rudy - I have copied your email to our support people here.

Please note that you sent your email on 2/19, which was Saturday here.
We were off work for the weekend and also on Monday, which was the
President's day holiday in the U.S.
