K3 and Hamlib - issue confirmed

Jobst Vandrey-2
I checked the version of Hamlib available with the Sqeeze flavor of Debian.
It is 1.2.11-1 and so considerably out of date vs the current version of
1.2.15-3.

I'll wait a bit to see if a later version gets uploaded to Debian -
otherwise, I'll face the music and try to compile it locally from source.

Thanks to Nate Bargmann N0NB for the solution to the issue I was having

I think compiling will be your only option at this time if you choose to
remain on Squeeze.  A later version will not be included in Squeeze due
to Debian policy.  As Wheezy is very close to release, possibly within
the next couple of months, it is already rather stable and may be worth
upgrading.  Of course, no one will find fault if you choose not to
update.  :-)

As the primary maintainer for Hamlib these days, I look to offer help
when I can.  I'm in the process of putting together a much improved
manual for the Hamlib 3.0 release but that is probably close to six
months away.

As Debian is making access to backports easier in the near future, I
asked to Kamal to look into providing a backport of the current Hamlib
release to Squeeze.  He agreed it would be a good idea and will look
into it as time permits.  There is no ETA for the moment, but I will
follow up when I hear something from Kamal.
