I use N3FJPs logging software, ACLog. Years ago, I helped Scott, the
author, debug his software to do CAT with my FT1000MP. Everything worked very well. I could click on a DX spot in his program and my FT1000MP would instantly change to the frequency and mode of the spot. Since Ive had my K3 (#474) I havent bothered to set up the ACLog software to talk to the rig until about a month ago. Now I notice that the rig is not changing to the mode that is presumed for that particular spot frequency. If I click on a spot on 7.025 and the K3 is in SSB mode on 20M, it switches to the correct frequency (7.025) but it stays in SSB mode. My FT1000MP will instantly change the mode to CW for the presumed band plan. Ive selected Elecraft in the ACLog software rig setup dropdown menu. Maybe it should be Kenwood. If you are using your K3 with N3FJPs logging software Id appreciate it if you would please contact me directly and share your settings. Also, are any other K3 users experiencing an annoying 3-4 second delay in the K3 changing to a new DX spot when selected in ACLog? My 1000MP was instant. My K3 really drags its feet making the DX spot change. Is this an ACLog issue or a K3 issue (or an OPERATOR issue)? :o) Thanks and 73, Terry, WØFM ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Terry,
Other software packages can do what you are expecting of ACLog, so I surmise that it is an ACLog problem. I have seen reports that a few applications try to send the frequency and mode changes in the wrong order and the K3 does not behave as expected. If you want substantiation, download and install HRD or N1MM and you will see that the K3 is quite responsive to frequency and mode changes. OTOH, you may have some sort of setup problem in the software too, check with the author of the software. 73, Don W3FPR Terry Schieler wrote: > I use N3FJP’s logging software, ACLog. Another program that I absolutely love is Comm Cat. Works perfectly with the K3. Look at the running DX list, click on the one you want and the radio changes to match what he's doing at his end. Terry,
I quit using ACLog because of the number of bugs and other weird behavior I experienced. It seemed that it could not properly control either my K3 or Omni 6+, however it seemed to do fine on the Icom gear which I got rid of. LOTW functionality was especially flakey. I switched to Ham Radio Deluxe and it is flawless, plus the list of features far exceeds ACLog's capabilities. 73, Charlie, K4ZRJ On 6/8/2010 13:33, Terry Schieler wrote: > I use N3FJP’s logging software, ACLog. Terry,
I use ACLog too and used it with a 756 which worked great, no so with the K3, I thought I was doing something wrong. I guess this time it wasn't me. When changing bands the K3 changes to the last used mode on the new band. ACLog and several other packages set the new mode BEFORE they change bands (e.g., mode then frequency) which results in "losing" the mode change. To work with the K3, a software package should first set the new band (frequency), then the mode and finally reset the frequency (an artifact of enabling VFO OFS). DXLab Suite handles the K3 very well ... 73, ... Joe, W4TV On 6/8/2010 1:33 PM, Terry Schieler wrote: > I use N3FJP’s logging software, ACLog. I sent email to N3FJP asking if he had any enhancements coming to better support the K3 and he answered that he does not. So, it is pretty much live with the problems or change logging programs.
I've liked N3FJP ACL because I just want a simple logging program that sort of looks like the old paper log book, but I've been doing more RTTY and it is annoying to have to keep editing QSOs to get the mode right, as is having to change the mode when clicking on packet spots. So, momentum is starting to build up to overcome inertia to go to most likely HRD for better K3 support. John K3TN |
That's the same response I've received when asking for updates to his
Field Day logging software. On 6/11/2010 5:51 AM, John K3TN wrote: > > I sent email to N3FJP asking if he had any enhancements coming to better > support the K3 and he answered that he does not. Same here. I switched to Logger32 (a free, well supported, and very powerful general logger) and never looked back. Importing ADIF contest files from N1MM into Logger32 is a trivial task, and both applications interface very well with the K3. 73, Dave AB7E On 6/11/2010 11:08 AM, Philip Leonard wrote: > That's the same response I've received when asking for updates to his > Field Day logging software. > > > On 6/11/2010 5:51 AM, John K3TN wrote: > >> I sent email to N3FJP asking if he had any enhancements coming to better >> support the K3 and he answered that he does not.
