Our club has been using TRlog for many years for Field Day and plan to
continue to use it for several good reasons. for the most part they are using it stand alone without a rig connection other than keying CW. in comes the K3 and the possibility of simple rig control and here is the problem. there seems to be some odd reactions when band changes are made TRlog fails to show it without delay. often the frequency display on TRlog will go blank and then show up again at either the new or old frequency then finally will settle down and show the correct info after 10 or 20 seconds. Also band changes at TRlog don't work I can only change it at the rig. this is running it under windows. if I boot into DOS 7.1 and run TRlog it all seems to work fine. I don't really know where the disconnect is something to do with windows Im sure it acts the same whether running XP or window 7. has anyone run into this and better does anyone know of a fix I fooled around with some of the polling delays to no effect. Here is the related section from the log.cfg as used I used Kenwood rig for the K3 as its recomended by TRlog. RADIO ONE CONTROL PORT = SERIAL 1 RADIO ONE BAUD RATE 4800 RADIO ONE TYPE TS850 and the K3 is of course set for 4800 as well I am thinking that the ultimate answer will be to run it from DOS but Id rather use windows so that I can use other applications as well. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
TRLog hasn't been updated since 2006, so I'd consider trying to convince
the fellows in the club that it's time to move on to one of the many more modern contest loggers. When I used Windows, I used N1MM, but the are many others that are still supported by their developers. 73, Scott, N9AA On 5/26/12 10:43 PM, david Moes wrote: > Our club has been using TRlog for many years for Field Day and plan to > continue to use it for several good reasons. for the most part they > are using it stand alone without a rig connection other than keying > CW. in comes the K3 and the possibility of simple rig control and > here is the problem. > > there seems to be some odd reactions when band changes are made TRlog > fails to show it without delay. often the frequency display on TRlog > will go blank and then show up again at either the new or old frequency > then finally will settle down and show the correct info after 10 or 20 > seconds. I love N1MM I believe TR4W is a very close approximation to TR but for
windows. Good luck! Its unlikely that we will be changing I have tried but there is
resistance. The advantage of TRlog is that it can be run right off a thumbdrive. and all the log files etc will remain on the thumbdrive so we have thumbdrive dedicated to each band. (we used to use floppies for this.) we don't have club computers so so we end up with a mix of private laptops allong with the mixed feelings of their owners to fool with networking etc. in our process To change bands the opps must use the thumb drive for that band. This avoids two things. less likely two stations will be using the same band, and there is a common log for the band so that regardless of the radio used there they are alerted to dups. networking would solve the latter but see above. Ive tried and I may try again at the FD meeting to convince them to use N1MM but I have doubts that they will go for it. I too love N1mm and use it myself for contests and I am considering as my only logger but for field day not so at least here as is complex and an op that is not familiar can get things messed up easy. Ive seen this and I don't want to be Mr. fix the software when Id rather be raking in the point. On field day we get a lot of different ops with different and sometimes lacking computer skills. TR4W well its nice but there is very lacking documentation. It claims network ability but I cant find out how. it is not mentioned in the "draft" documentation that I managed to hunt down as the documentation on the website takes you to the original TRlog document files. so TR4W is definitly out. there are a few others but we run into the network thing that seems to be such an unfortunate roadblock. I will try! Perhaps SD will meet your needs.
http://www.ei5di.com/ I have no affiliation with this program. However, it has worked for me with various rigs, not a K3 however, Robie - AJ4F On Sun, May 27, 2012 at 6:48 AM, David Moes <[hidden email]> wrote: > Its unlikely that we will be changing I have tried but there is > resistance. The most complete documentation - although not the most convenient is to use Google's Language Tools with the Russian wiki. <http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tr4w.com%2Fwiki%2Findex.html&act=url> Like all machine translations the result is not idiomatic and sometimes a bit confusing but it is generally usable. 73, ... According the TRLog manual its not able to do speeds between 4800 and
57600. it seems that the manual here is only partly correct. I don't see a way to set bits and stop bits, I think this is assumed when you set the rig type. In this case Kenwood. So I tried 38400 it and it seems to have improved it but still takes Two or three seconds or so to update whats strange is that RIT and anything that TR send to the K3 are instant. just slow back. example if I change bands using TRlog the K3 does it instantly it takes TR a few seconds to realize it. sometimes TRlog changes to a completely different band for a second or two. but now its broken when booted in DOS TRlog has problems. at 38400 it is really bad. and updates sometimes and then only after a long wait. perhapse that is why those speeds are not in the manual. I think I can live with this, since its updating much faster than before. Now if I can convince the group to get with the 21st century we wouldn't have these problems Don't get me wrong TRlog is a very well written piece of software. its just not really happy in windows. Changing bands is solved. it was an error in the config that limited TR to one band. On 5/26/2012 11:24 PM, Guy Olinger K2AV wrote: > Use 38,400 for the baud rate, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.
