K3 and split mode

alsopb
I've been combing the manual for some clarification on how split works with no sub rx.

I understand the part about setting split.

What I don't see is any way to listen on VFO B (at all or only) when one is trying to find the station the DX is working by tuning VFO B.   Kenwoods and ICOM's have a press and hold button while tuning to do this.
Upon release the RX goes back to VFOA.

What does the K3 do?  It would seem that the secondary function "BSET" on the VFOB button (which apparently applies for the subrx) would be the logical place to have such a press and hold function.

You depress REV (between A/B and A>B) and VFO B is momentarily displayed (as long as you hold REV).  This is similar in function to the T-F SET button on the TS-930S if you've ever used that.  One nice feature is that you can set different bandwidths for A and B so you can listen to the DX with a narrow setting and tune for callers with a wide setting.  If you are as accustomed to doing this as I was with my TS-930S, it's *almost* as good as having a Sub receiver.

Agreed, Bill.  On other transceivers, I really do not need a second Rx as
long as separate b/w can be assigned to each VFO.  I think a good op can
manipulate the VFOs every bit as effectively as one with two Rx -- and I am
by no means a great DX op.

This feature was a real benefit with the Ten Tec Omni VI/VI+ that the
current Omni VII lacks but should be incorporated in a forthcoming firmware
update.  Without this ability, operating DX-split without the second Rx is a
pretty painful experience.  I am pleased to hear this is already part of the
K3 feature set.

Thanks Bill.

This is what I missed.  It certainly isn't in the split section of the manual.  It is there  in the Keypad section.

The additional flexibility of having separate filters is a real plus.
It used to be easy to find the station being worked.  Not so anymore with wall-to-wall continuous callers.
