K3 cross-band split

Trying to get set up for the IARU with my new subRX, and want to use SO2V
mode with N1MM logger.

It works fine when both VFOs are on the same band.

But when the logger tries to put K3 into split mode in a cross-band
situation, K3 says "SPL N/A" . There is a note in the manual saying that
this could be due to incompatible modes on the VFOs, but both are on CW.

No doubt I'm missing something pretty simple. Any ideas what?

Craig,

Do you have the menu set to VFO IND? If not, you cannot operate the K3
cross-band split.
Do note the caution documented in the manual at the end of page 37.

Thanks, Don, for the suggestions.

I did have VFO IND set to "Yes". I'm also using a dedicated RX antenna on
the AUX input of the subRX. So both of those seem to be set up OK.

You can not transmit on VFO B if VFO B and VFO A are on
different bands. That is a limitation of the K3.

In that case, I would investigate what commands N1MM is sending to the K3.

Not an incompatibility between N1MM and K3. N1MM can't command
the K3 to do something that the K3 can't support. Transmitter
filters and synthesizer settings are "locked" to VFO A due to
settling and switching time limitations and the K3 will not go
into split mode when VFO A and VFO B and on different bands.

N1EU and I worked with K3CT for quite a while to get the maximum
capability out of SO2V with the K3 given the available data and
control.

This is not an N1MM Logger issue; the same thing happens if you try to
do this (cross-band split) from the front panel.

The K3 does not support cross-band split using the SPLIT function. That
is, you cannot transmit from VFO B when the two VFOs are on different
bands. With VFO IND set to "Yes", you can set the subRX to receive on a
different band from VFO A, so in that sense you can operate cross-band
(listening on VFO B and transmitting from VFO A), but you cannot operate
the K3 in the reverse orientation (listening on VFO A and transmitting
from VFO B). That is what the "SPL N/A" message on the K3's display is
telling you.

Bottom line: if you want to operate cross-band split with the K3, you
have to put the transmit frequency in VFO A. Dave AB7E has described a
way to do this from N1MM Logger - see
