K3: did you work the SS this past weekend?

DOUGLAS ZWIEBEL
I was on and recognized a number of calls.  But I wonder how many I
didn't recognize.

If you were qrv in the SS, please let me know your callsign (please
reply directly).

Thanks!

Re: K3: did you work the SS this past weekend?

Lee J. Imber (WW2DX)
Doug, thanks for the Q this weekend!

I operated at Ray W2RE's QTH and we used my call. This was my first SS
ever and we used Ray's new #1965 K3 and a MP for the other radio.

What a great time! The K3 performed flawlessly and it's absolutely
amazing how there is almost no fatigue running that rig. The receiver
is just so quiet and so smooth.

Our goal was 1000 Q's and a clean sweep and we met both.

We needed NWT and AK for the last 2 and they both called us in the
last few hours of the test ;)

There was one issue with the K3 that I noticed. If I had the width
squeezed to 250hz and forgot, I wondered why I didn't hear stations
calling.
Open it back up to 500 and the world reappeared!

Call: WW2DX
Operator(s): WW2DX, W2RE
Station: W2RE

Class: Multi-Op HP
QTH: ENY
Operating Time (hrs): 24
Radios: SO2R

Summary:
  Band  QSOs
------------
   160:
    80:  316
    40:  382
    20:  394
    15:    3
    10:
------------
Total: 1095  Sections = 80  Total Score = 175,200

Club: HVCDX

We missed the division record by 19 Q's and next year our goal is to
set a new record.

Thanks to all that worked us and look forward to CQWW CW!

K3 #843 in CW SS

John Unger-2
In reply to this post by DOUGLAS ZWIEBEL
I operated in the CW SS this past weekend as an unassisted, SO2R station. I
had my K3 as the main  radio and was using it for running most of the time;
I used my TenTec Orion as the S&P second radio. It gave me an excellent
opportunity to compare the two rigs under fire.

The biggest thing I noticed was how much easier it was to listen to K3
compared to the Orion. When you are listening to one radio in each ear, you
notice things like this... One feature of the Orion that did come in handy
was using the "Sweep" display to make a quick check for activity on a
"dead" band while still running on the K3.

However, if I had to get rid of one radio, the Orion would be the one to
go... The K3 is a wonderful contest rig!
