The next K3 beta firmware release will include dramatically better
bass response in receive mode (50-200 Hz). The result is fuller, richer audio, which many of you have asked for. Lyle (KK7P) and I are completing the full beta test suite, and hope to do the release early next week. But we could also use a couple of volunteers--who really like low bass--to try the field-test release. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I can't wait!
This is what | love about Elecraft, we complain and/or suggest things to improve and they try to add or fix it. Most of the time they succeed in making us all happy. I have no doubt the audio is going to improve big time with more bass response. 73, Maarten PD2R 2009/9/18, Wayne Burdick <[hidden email]>: > The next K3 beta firmware release will include dramatically better > bass response in receive mode (50-200 Hz). Will this be optional?
Personally I don't want it. I have impaired hearing and bass response seriously degrades intelligibility for me. I'm still "field testing" 3.20 I think it is as that one "accidentally"
had the better LF response... I had to go back when it got taken away... Looking forward to getting the more NR options AND LF response! Thanks Elecraft! ~Brett On Thu, 2009-09-17 at 23:50 -0700, PA3CW wrote: > Hello Wayne, > > I am realy interested to fielt test the next release with the audio > improvements. Another improvement to the K3 makes me a happy man. The K3 is so good that I am considering the sale of an Icom 746 PRO to purchase a second K3 for hauling around. This time perhaps I will install the two meter option. Thank you Elecraft for encouraging the feedback and for being patient when your users get impatient. I am looking forward to the P3 panadaptor. 73 Doug ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Wowee! This could save me the trouble of modifying DSP board hardware.
I've asked to be a beta tester on this, as I often browse the AM stations and have a 13kHz filter installed. I have 2 x K3's to modify and the first one is already stripped down and the components to be removed are marked. I intended starting the mod after lunch today, viz in 45 minutes. 73 DaveL G3TJP ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

If you leave your fingers off the shift control, bass response will be the same as it is now.

It's entirely dependent on the setting of Shift/Width in CW or Hi/Low in SSB. If you don't extend the passband to include the low frequencies, you don't hear anything different. All the change does is provide the /capability/ to reproduce the bass tones if you adjust it to do so. -- 73, Vic, K2VCO Fresno CA http://www.qsl.net/k2vco ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Wayne:
Yay! And while I would LOVE to be involved in the Beta, you have my radio since last Thursday :( I look forward to its return with new, tight encoders and more bass response. Regards Lu Romero - W4LT K3 3192
