K3 firmware upgrade

I have routinely been able to update software in both K3s in the
usual manner. I tried to update to 4.51 today and the latest K3 urility that comes up on the Elecraft site is 1.12.3.28. This utility will not allow me to update to 4.51. I see that Elecraft recommends K3 utility 1.3.9.2 but I can find no evidence of that one on Elecraft' site. Hi Steve,
The recommendation you are referring to obviously has not been updated as 1.3.9.2 would be circa 2010. The current K3 Utility software for Windows is 1.12.3.28. If you would provide the messages or symptoms your are experiencing when you try to download 4.51 someody here will be able to help you. 73, Mike K2MK

The latest firmware files will be copied from an Elecraft file server to your Local folder for firmware files. Then the firmware versions available in your Local folder for firmware files are compared with the versions installed in your K3. I just did this and my K3 Utility fetched the current firmware from Elecraft's web site. Does your Internet Explorer show a similar directory when you go to URL: ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/K3/firmware? If not, perhaps you have a stale internet cache. Use the Control Panel applet, Internet Options, and "delete temporary files". The latest Utility version is 1.12.3.28. You didn't say where you got the
recommended version from, but it is wrong, or for another product utility. Check to make sure you are not running any other applications on you K3 port before you try to download. The K3 cannot share that port with any another application. Elecraft's download page for installing firmware 4.51 and the latest utility is here: http://www.elecraft.com/K3/k3_software.htm. Install the utility appropriate for your operating system before attempting the 4.51 firmware upgrade. Thanks so much for the quick reply. Of course, I didn't update the info in the cache so it only showed my last upload (4.39). I HATE getting old. Both K3s updated to 4.51...smooth as silk. Is there a list of menu items current through 4.51 or do I just print the software update list? Wayne uses this technique: current menu items are the union of the most recent owners manual and firmware notes since the date of that owners manual. Glad you are up to date! 4.51 is a significant release. There is some CW decode change that should be improved in the next version. But it's nicer now in contests and DX pileups.
