K3 list?

Fred (FL)
There are any number of good, modern FORUM Message
Boards out there.  Most are "software free".  It
just seems like REFLECTOR is a successful product
of the past, way back in the ascii TTY RS-232C
days of the 60's.  Many mature types (like me),
had gotten very familiar with REFLECTOR, and
say they love it.

For some reason the principles of Elecraft, seem
to believe Reflector is good enough for their
customer base.  IMHO - I feel the opposite.  It
is stressful and tuff to use, everything is
serial and homogenized in nature.  And with
all the K3 hoopla of late - posts of "help"
for other Elecraft product problems - appear to be
getting lost in the K3 chaff.  That is not
good for excellent customer service.

Especially for Elecraft Inc., although they
advertise differently, they do not have
a primary "Service Dept." per se - rather
they rely on the "message board" and its
questions & responses - to take care of
a large portion of customer questions,
problems, and complaints.  At one point
when I inquired, in regards to sending back
my K2 # 54xx, for a "good calibration, and
checkout" - I was esentially discouraged
and I recall told "No".

So if anything, Elecraft Inc., needs a more
modern easy-to-use Message Board FORUM, more
than ever.  A retired EE's, Computer
Engineer's recommendation - IMHO.

A FORUM message board, similiar to the
examples you gave - I feel, would serve the
Elecraft customer base, and all the problems
and product messages that continue on like
the urinary tract - far better.  It is
2007 afterall.

Here's 2 more - used by service-intensive
outfits:

       http://forum.pcmech.com/

I do have a reputation, of loving the Elecraft
Inc. product line, and also FORUMS!  :)

Not again! :-)

There's a thriving K3 group on Yahoo Groups:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Elecraft_K3. That might be a good place to
move the K3 traffic.

This discussion has been squashed before and every time it comes up so it
seems somewhat pointless to bring it up again. I just point out the other K3
group for those who are unaware of it. Eric is a regular poster there.

We all know the relative merits of a Web-based forum. I wonder if we'll be
able to keep this thread short this time around since it's all been asked
and answered a dozen times before and is therefore moot? :-)

Please kill this before it starts!!!  This has been discussed time and time again.  Eric is busy with K3
stuff so I just wanted to step in here to cut down additional traffic that will serve no purpose.  This
reflector is the vehicle chosen by Elecraft for two-way communication for all their products.
