Hi
I'm stuck. I used to use my microKeyer 2 with my IC756 Pro3. Since selling the Icom I have bought the K3 cables and I am now trying to get the microKeyer 2 to work with my K3. I am using the Proset-K2 Boom Headset For the K3/ K2 (Heil iC element) which was bought with the radio. I am only using the headset - I have no other microphone connected. I have assumed that the headset has electret elements. I have set up my K3's mike gain. However, when I move the headset to the back of the microKeyer 2 I can't get any movement on the AGC read out. Please Help Bill GM0VIT |
Have you set the jumpers in MK II for an electret mic? Have you set Router to select the rear mic ("Microphone Selector" on the Audio Switching tab)? What adapter are you using between the ProSet K2 and the Foster to RJ-45 adapter connected to the rear of the MK II? Have you set the "EXT MIC" jumper for IC and tried using the EXT MIC (3.5mm) jack on the front of MK II? Please refer to the user manual. 73, ... Hi
Thanks for getting back to me so soon. <<Have you set the jumpers in MK II for an electret mic? >> I've connected (i) the jumper to the 2 pin connecter in fron of the middle pot (ii) the jumper on the two pins (EL) of three pins near to the EXT MIC (iii) the jumper on the PA-RE-SS covers the two pins at the PA end (iV the jumper on the LNA-RE-SS covers the two pins ont the LNA end I have not connected (i) the jumper onto the ICVOX pins (ii) the jumper on J11 near the power input. <<Have you set Router to select the rear mic ("Microphone Selector" on the Audio Switching tab)?>> Yes <<What adapter are you using between the ProSet K2 and the Foster to RJ-45 adapter connected to the rear of the MK II? >> The one that was supplied with the rest of the cables - bought new from microHam. <<Have you set the "EXT MIC" jumper for IC and tried using the EXT MIC (3.5mm) jack on the front of MK II? >> <<Please refer to the user manual>> I am. I forgot to aswer one of your questions. <<Have you set the "EXT MIC" jumper for IC and tried using the EXT MIC (3.5mm) jack on the front of MK II? >> Yes, I've tried it but it didn't work either. Bill |

The only adapter is Foster to RJ-45. What are you using between the 3.5mm plug and the Foster? That adapter is normally an AD-1"X" where "X" indicates the brand of transceiver for which the adapter is wired. With the K2 or K3 you *MUST* use the AD-1K (Kenwood) adapter. > (ii) the jumper on the two pins (EL) of three pins near to the > EXT MIC If you have a standard Proset K2/K3, you need to connect the "IC" pins or use a 3.5mm mono female to 2.5mm stereo male adapter between the Proset mic plug and the EXT Mic jack of the MK II. 73, ... Joe
Thanks for your speedy reply. I feel such an idiot. I had not set the K3 to use it's rear mike socket. Now that I've done that it seems okay. I'll leave the EXT MIC for now and plough on and get the set up completed for my main mic (Proset K2/K3). Sorry for wasting your time. Thanks again. Bill |
Hi
Part 2 I'm very nearly there thanks to the help given so far. (i) I managed to get through the "6 - Setting Audio Levels" to point 8 on page 46. The next step, adjusting the Balance, has no effect on my ALC levels. Am I right to assume that I can ignore this for the the K3? I've done nothing about the DVK tab as I don't plan on using it just now. (ii) I use Winwarbler in DXLabs for PSK and RTTY. I've set this up for FSK. Should I be using the PSK D and FSK D settings on the K3? (iii) When I run a macro (in Winwarbler) on FSK it puts the K3 into transmit, sends the message and puts the K3 back into receive. However, when on PSK the same macro is sent okay but at the end of the macro the microKeyer 2 clicks but the K3 stays in transmit. What am I doing wrong? Please help Bill GM0VIT |

Bill,
Your point (i) refers to the microKeyer II manual; I can't help you there. Re (ii), you cannot use PSK D with WinWarbler or most other software. For PSK31 and most other sound card digital modes, you should use DATA A. For RTTY, you can use either FSK D or AFSK A; both work equally well. Re (iii), how are you doing PTT? There have been numerous reports of K3s getting hung up in transmit at the end of messages, coming from people who had configured their software to use both software PTT and hardware PTT in parallel. To avoid this problem, you should not use software PTT unless there is no hardware method available. There are several ways of triggering hardware PTT from WinWarbler/Commander via the mK II, so software PTT is unnecessary with this combination. You can turn software PTT off in Commander by checking the "Suppress CAT" box under the General tab in Commander's Configuration window. There is more guidance on configuring WinWarbler and Commander for digital modes on the K3 at <http://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/K3PSKRTTY> . I hope this helps. 73, Rich VE3KI GM0VIT wrote: > > Hi > > Part 2 > > I'm very nearly there thanks to the help given so far. > > (i) I managed to get through the "6 - Setting Audio Levels" to point 8 on > page 46. Rich
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I am so close to a solution but can't cross the finish line just yet. I followed your instructions and managed to get it working for PSK. I even had a qso. Now I've got the RTTY working but for some reason the PSK is playing up again. I get the K3 switching on but there doesn't seem to be any power getting out and the transmit has stopped switching off again. I've just heard claps of thunder and I've disconnected all of my aerials. I'll try again in the morning. Thanks again Bill |
Hi
I've folowed the advice given by Rich and made the alterations to the K3, Commander and Winwarbler. Now something strange is happening. When I send a PSK macro with Commander's config box open all is well. When the macro has been transmitted the K3 goes back into receive. However, if Commander's config box is closed the K3 does not move back into receive but stays in transmit. If I re-0pen the config window and send the macro it works again. Very Strange. Please help/ Bill |
Hi
Problem seems to be fixed. Thanks all. Bill GM0VIT |
