Well, Only days old here the new K3 is still challenging
me. Lots of fun without doubt. Anyway I am running MMTTY and using AFSK in the data mode. Everything looks good but no output. I tried shifting to USB/LSB and output is as set on power control. Tones on monitor and another RX sound good as well. But again when in data mode I get no/very low output. Power is set at about 50W and I get that in USB. Any thoughts on what I am missing here? The K3 stores input selection (mic - front | rear, or line) and mic level/line level on a per mode and per band basis. Have you set up the input and mic/line levels correctly in DATA A/AFSK A on each band? 73, ... Mike,
That sounds to me as though you have the input set for MIC rather than line in, or something similar. First I would suggest using Line In and use DATA mode (AFSK A submode), select Line In in the MIC SEL menu. Set the K3 into TX TEST (or set the power down and operate into a dummy load) - set MMTTY into transmit, then -- Adjust the line out and Wave sliders on your soundcard to about 2/3 of full scale. Then adjust the MIC Gain (now actually Line In) to illuminate 4 bars on the ALC meter with the 5th bar flashing - ignore the conventional "wisdom" given for data mode setup (no alc indication) - the K3 is different, the - the 1st 4 bars of the ALC meter do not indicate ALC at all, they are there to help you adjust the audio level. The 5th bar indicates the onset of ALC 73, Don W3FPR On 9/4/2012 4:31 PM, Mike Sanders wrote: > Well, Only days old here the new K3 is still challenging > me. Lots of fun without doubt. That was it Don. I set line in for this mode and it came right up.
I will get the levels set in a bit as you say for the K3. I guess you did it again Don. Mike , What I am wondering now is how line in adj helped you, as when when I suggested that you look at line in level earlier, you said you are using FP front mike for input?
Adrian ... vk4tux "Adrian, Thanks for the input. I got the Beta firmware, downloaded set up and running so am good for the moment. Just cannot get the output up on RTTY Data. I am using a front mount mic selection but my mike goes to a rigblaster duo it does all this house keeping. The radio keys up and goes into transmit. My set up for the Kwood mike works in the rigblaster on all the other modes Digital etc. So I have audio into the mic input from my computer through the rigblaster on the other modes to the K3. Leave it to me to disable something obsure. Thanks again es 73 for now. Line level was set up and adjusted up some. I do not remember the level right now but I did get to it. However I am set up for FP mic and have it up all the way. Output on USB is good and very low output on Data. Data sounds good in another receiver and on monitor but no output to speak of. Thanks Mike Sanders KØAZ” Mike , You are using a mic or front mic socket to bring in the audio from the pc? Not using the line in on back of k3?" |
