K3: prod run #1 size

DOUGLAS ZWIEBEL
Gents:

I feel that the rumors are getting off track again.....

As I recall (which may not be perfect), but in the very beginning, it
was posted that (paraphrasing), "If you place a 50% deposit, you can
have a SN in the first 200."  There was never any statement that 200
was the size of a production run, though lots of us inferred that.
Later, again paraphrasing, the cheerful request for up front cash
indicated that "A deposit will get you a low SN."

I believe that it was officially stated that the size of production
run #1 (and #2) were increased, but no absolute numbers were ever made
public (it's their ball).

For all we know, production run #1 is 100 radios...or 150, or 200 or
maybe 220 or 250.  There are no facts on this available to the general
public (including me).

I don't know/recall when submitted orders for Run #2 started, except
that it was before Dayton, 2006.  All we have to go on so far are the
dates that the orders were placed.  So for sure, orders placed at
Dayton are run #2.  Counts - who knows?

Right now, I'll be content knowing that I"m somewhere in run #2 and I
sure hope that I'll get my K3 before the December holidays.  Having
the last two weeks of the year off will give me lots of time to
assemble and enjoy.  But sooner is better!  LOL

So I agree (based on my own opinion only) that if the published
shipping schedule is adhered to, that probably another 100 radios have
to go out before "the week of November 30" ends.  20 a day (M-F)
should do the trick.  Add in a Saturday or two, and YMMV.

Re: K3: prod run #1 size

Brett Gazdzinski
I think you may be wrong in expecting it before the December
holidays, I am in the first run and figure I might get mine just before
that.
Ordered May 2nd and paid the deposit, and so far I have heard nothing.
After the email arrives, its 5 to 10  business days or something before it
ships,
then there is the wait while its in transit.
That could be 15 business days after I get a mail from Elecraft.
That could be Dec 15th for me, if I get the Email this Monday.

Must have been something selling 200 (or more) radios in the
first 2 or 3 days!

I got to wonder what the timeframe is when they will get out of battle mode
at Elecraft, first there was the anouncement of the K3 (rush of orders),
then
some details come out, and the 'thinkers' order a bunch, then the reviews
come out, another rush of orders, then maybe the US dollar will fall some
more
making a full K3 cost about 20 euros or something and another rush....

I think the idea that a deposit would get you a serial number in the
first 200 is also just speculation. I don't recall seeing *any*
statement about actual numbers from Elecraft, either of the size of
production runs or number of orders taken. They could have taken
fewer, or more than 200 deposits. All I recall is that paying a
deposit booked you a place in the queue ahead of those who didn't,
which seemed a no-brainer at the time as I imagined that every ham on
the planet would want a K3 once they found out about it.

Greetings!
[snip]
As explained on the order form, you can reserve a K3 now for initial
shipments in July. A 50% deposit is requested if you'd like to secure
one of the first 200 production units (serial numbers 20-220, probably).

Sorry if this muddied the water - it doesn't say only 200 in first run, just
we could get one of the first 200

It had better include the 2-May as well, since I was told I was in first
run. I don't believe I've seen anything saying the last ships for this run
take us to and end on, the 30th. In fact, someone has one they ordered on
1-May.

>From the status page:
" One note - We received such a large surge of orders the first 1-5 days
after we announced the K3 that we are still working on building and shipping
that group and will be for at least another week or more. "

And I can't find Erics last update that said about what shipped in the last
2 weeks.

SV: K3: prod run #1 size

Bjorn
It is always fun to speculate;

Eric wrote: "If you have not ordered before May 10th, we would appreciate
your holding off emailing us for status as much as possible."

So this might be the cut off date for the 1st run?

He also wrote: "Weeks of Nov 12-16 and Nov 19-23 (Orders with deposits)"

As a deposit would get you into the first 200, this would indicate that the
first 200 should go out the door this week which seems a little optimistic.
Or there were never 200 prepaid.

Just my speculations... :)

Re: SV: K3: prod run #1 size

John Klewer
As I am sure you all know...all the while that the good folks at
Elecraft have been shipping out these first 100 K3s, their manufacturing
operation (in house and outside assemblers) have been cranking out
boards and modules and filters, etc. It is decidedly NOT a serial
operation until the testing/packing phase arrives.

The net result is that they likely have a large pile of boards now in
house being tested and packed for shipping......they have already told
us they are hiring staff to test and perform the other necessary
functions in order to satisfy our K3-lust.

While I have greatly lowered my expectations of when my K3 is likely to
arrive, I am confident that the pace of deliveries will significantly
increase over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile...I am sure enjoying the assembly pictures being
provided...thanks to all who have done so. The vicarious experience is
better than nothing right now!

My wife thinks the whole lot of us are just a bit off
kilter...........could she be right?

Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving Day to all
