I suspect that I'm not alone in continuously butting up against the
K3's limited display area and not being able to see some of the settings. I REALLY want/need full-time display of parameters such as main/sub width, shift, AGC, ant, pre and TX cmp, pwr, mic to name a few. I don't want to have to press buttons to see underlying parameters, especially of the sub rx and tx. Since a K4 with a huge display is not forthcoming, has anyone developed a simple software utility that just merely functions as a virtual K3 display to show all these params and that could be run off LP_Bridge so that it could run alongside logging programs? 73, Barry N1EU ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
I think Ham Radio Deluxe does this,

All I'm talking about is a simply virtual display applet - a few
square inches of area on the PC monitor to show operating parameters without having to push a bunch of buttons (like in the middle of a contest). HRD is a huge application and as far as I can tell it won't run off LP_Bridge, won't show subrx parameters or MIC/CMP (I could be wrong). K3_EZ never ran off LP_Bridge unless something changed. During a contest, I like to look down and confidently know my mic gain/compression and tx power along with my rx width and shift. I also like to know my subrx settings without resorting to BSET. It seems like this simple augmented display would have wide appeal - might also sell more K3's since other than the Orion, none of the competing rigs have a full display offering either. 73, Barry N1EU On Sat, Oct 30, 2010 at 10:40 PM, Dick Dievendorff <[hidden email]> wrote: > I think Ham Radio Deluxe does this, > > http://www.ham-radio-deluxe.com/ > > and there's an application called K3_EZ that may also be of interest to you. > > http://home.roadrunner.com/~n2bc/SW.htm > > There may be others, but these are the ones I'm aware of. > > 73 de Dick, K6KR > > > -----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] > [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Barry N1EU > Sent: Saturday, October 30, 2010 3:29 PM > To: elecraft > Subject: [Elecraft] K3 software utility ? > > I suspect that I'm not alone in continuously butting up against the > K3's limited display area and not being able to see some of the > settings. Not sure folks are "getting" what I'm talking about. I'm talking about something SIMPLE that just DISPLAYS parameters, to make up for the limited K3 display real estate. Barry N1EU |
Barry,
I don't believe there is anything out there that only displays the parameters. Most applications that display the parameters also allow them to be changed - making the changes is the minor part of the program's work. You could just run the application and look at the display - there is no need to make changes from the keyboard, you can also make changes from the radio. I believe you are asking for a less computer intense application, but polling the radio and doing the display is a much more intense task than performing commands entered through the keyboard and mouse. One can issue commands through a dumb terminal, but the graphical representation of the responses from the radio is the bulk of the task. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/30/2010 8:11 PM, Barry N1EU wrote: > Not sure folks are "getting" what I'm talking about. I don't know how many params are available, but I'd be willing to bet that the screen
real estate to display them all would be more that a couple of sq. inches.... Not everything is available for broadcast when the K3 is set to AUTOINF, thus the need to poll the K3 as Don pointed out. Could you list the items you're wanting to see? 73, Mike NF4L On 10/30/2010 8:11 PM, Barry N1EU wrote: > > VE3NFK wrote: >> >> TRX-Manager full control of ALL parameters - resizable >> >> trx-manager.com >> >> > Not sure folks are "getting" what I'm talking about. Yes, but I don't believe there ARE any applications that display the
parameters, let alone run with LP_Bridge. Parameters: Main RX Width, Shift Sub RX Width, Shift, Ant TX Mic Gain, CMP, PWR, Mon (and I'm sure some folks would prefer a few more) Barry N1EU On Sun, Oct 31, 2010 at 1:30 AM, Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> wrote: > I don't believe there is anything out there that only displays the > parameters. The Yaesu DMU-2000 has a mode that displays all the parameters, though it scrolls to list all of them. You can also change parameters while viewing the parameter display, as I remember.
It would be a nice addition. Jim N7US -----Original Message----- Yes, but I don't believe there ARE any applications that display the parameters, let alone run with LP_Bridge. Most of what you are looking for are displayed in a window in DL2RUM's excellent RUMLog. But it is Mac only so unless you are running a Mac I guess that's not an option.

I should have also had Subrx Pre, ATT, NB, NR in that list of parameters to display:
Parameters: Main RX Width, Shift Sub RX Width, Shift, Ant, Pre, ATT, NB, NR TX Mic Gain, CMP, PWR, Mon 73, Barry N1EU

> Main RX Width, Shift > Sub RX Width, Shift, Ant I can see some usefulness for this, although I'm pretty happy with what I have for the MAIN RX. What I'm not at all satisfied with is display for the SUB RX (nor with some of the operational functions relating to the sub-RX) and I'm hoping that Wayne and the guys are thinking about how to improve that. . > TX Mic Gain, CMP, PWR, Mon I can't think of any good reason for improving the display of any of these. What really matters is the RESULT of the Mic Gain and CMP, and we've got that on the display. The setting MON is what's in my ears, so I don't need a readout of that either. I just finished making 924 QSOs in 28 hours of CQWWSSB with a manually tuned amp (Ten Tec Titan) and manual antenna tuners, and lots of band changes. We see the power setting when we adjust it. Since the K3 can remember power settings by band, all I have to do is set them once per band, and occasionally tweak them a bit as I would QSY (from the west coast, you do mostly S&P in any contest that includes DX, no matter how wonderful your station). And I really don't care what the K3 is putting out once I've set it -- I watch the power meter on the output of the amp. And I MUST have a power meter on the output of the amp so that I can tune the amp properly. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
