For wish list:
I need to toggle between two power levels, eg. 100 and 5Watts. Now the only way is to turn PWR pot abt 4 whole rounds. This slowly tears the precious and expensive potmeter. Lower power is often needed for amplifier or QRP. Full 100W for barefoot. Toggle might be PF1 and PF2. If you have a computer connected, you can also set power with the PC
command. I realize not everyone has or wants a computer connected at all times, but it is another way. I think it is a rotary shaft encoder, not a potentiometer. Thanks, Dick
I tested that. -Go to Elecraft Utility program. -Go to Configuration -Restore saved config including power level. It takes 40 seconds to restore, Then K3 RESTARTS. No, this is not what I meant. Rolling with that shaft encoder is much more handier. But not handy that, either. Imagine yourself working barefoot 100W and need some help with linear to get that station. Adjustments are too long. I need to switch between two power levels, not roll. But this is just a whisper of wish. Benny,
If you are willing to use the K3 Utility Command Tester, then you can read or set the K3 power using the "PC" command - see the K3 Programmers reference for a full description. PC005; should set the power to 5 watts, and PC100; should set it to 100 watts. Set up 2 macros to make the switch easy. You could add commands to use the K2 extended mode for finer control at low power levels if you wanted. 73, Don W3FPR Benny Aumala wrote: > Thanks, Dick > > I tested that. > -Go to Elecraft Utility program. > -Go to Configuration > -Restore saved config including power level. > It takes 40 seconds to restore, > Then K3 RESTARTS. > No, this is not what I meant. Benny, perhaps I was misunderstood. There is PC that is "personal computer"
but the K3 also has a PC command to query or set the power output level. What I was proposing is having a personal computer send the string "PC005;" to set the K3 power to 5 watts, and "PC100;" to set the power to 100 watts. It takes a very short time to do this. Perhaps you can store these strings in K3 Utility Command Tester "Memories" and press the appropriate button. Again, I realize that not all users want a solution that requires a personal computer attached at all times, but this is an alternative that saves wear and tear on the power level shaft encoder, and it is very quick. DXLab's WinWarbler has user programable command lines that can be
executed when changing modes. I use them to set the specific data mode and also to send the PC command to set the power level I want. For example when selecting PSK31 it sends the command to the radio to select data-a mode, shifts the FC for me and sets power for 40W. 73 Greg AB7R On Aug 17, 2009, at 10:30 PM, Dick Dievendorff wrote: > Benny, perhaps I was misunderstood. I'd like to see the power level remembered between the two antenna ports.
That way you can connect your amplifier to one port and always have the power set for the correct amp drive. And you can have the other port that bypasses the amp where the power is set for 100 watts (or whatever you want). So you'd have (as an example) ANT1 for 100 watts using the K3 internal tuner, and ANT2 feeding an amplifier and external antenna tuner, where the power setting for ANT2 is whatever you've set for the amp drive on the different bands. As you might be able to tell, I don't use ALC with my amp.
