Hello:
I am considering the purchase of a K3 for the purpose of 6M, VHF, UHF and eventually Microwave contesting. Obviously this will result in using transverters with all the associated cabling to achieve this. I would appreciate hearing how you accomplished this, and why you picked the K3. Thanks to any and all who would email me directly or post to the reflector. 73, Dennis N9TZL ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Look at W3ZZ's column "The World Above 50 MHz" in June QST (pages 94-96). Table 1 shows suggestions for transverters and amplifiers used with the K3 from 50 MHz - 47 GHz. 73, Bill |
Guys...
The W3ZZ article was a hold-over from the April issue! See paragraph on p. 96! Someone has an outstanding sense of humor. That's funny because my copy reads: "No, it's not April. That was 2 months ago. And this column is not a joke. Everything mentioned here is perfectly legal." I also know W3ZZ happens to like the K3: "While at the 09 Central States VHF conference, I had a chance to visit with Gene W3ZZ at some length about his favorite IF rig, the Elecraft K3." http://www.qth.net/k0awu/K3System.html The above page also shows K0AWU's set-up with PowerSDR. 73, Bill |

Dennis,
have a look at this site. http://www.kuhne-electronic.de/index.php?id=14&L=1 The experts say, his transverters are top of the list. For his personal station he is using a K3 and he tells all his customers, that there is no better equipment available. 73 de Peter, DL2FI > -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- > Von: [hidden email] [mailto:elecraft- > [hidden email]] Im Auftrag von N9TZL > Gesendet: Montag, 16. Of course it is all legal, but it has nothing at all to do with amateur
radio /*when taken in toto.* /It is a collection of suggestions for improvements that one can make to a station, concatenated into one large suggestion. Consider the content: A minimum of 8 towers ranging around 100 feet ("an extra tower...might not be a bad idea"), 14 ea. K3s, 6 Kuhne transverters and 4 from Down East, 12 amplifiers, and tubing to go atop each tower, not to mention the hardline, the electricity, the acreage, and an army of at least 16 associated rovers, their equipment, and their cars and gasoline. This has nothing to do with Ham radio as most of us know it, and to take it /*literally*/ borders on April not June. If taken literally, it underscores the reason that SSB contests are like ice hockey played with 100 players on a side, or Afghani polo with a human head. P.S. I don't blame him for liking the K3. I like mine too. Cricket, anyone? John Ragle -- W1ZI ===== On 5/16/2011 10:41 AM, Bill W4ZV wrote: > John Ragle wrote: >> The W3ZZ article was a hold-over from the April issue!
