K3s tx LED issue, need help

Bryan Savill
Here's my issue and it has just begun.
I'm using a Heil Proset with my K3s, when I switch to VOX the tx LED
lights with no input.
With the headset on my head, if I touch the K3 case the LED goes out and
I am able to tx while holding the case.
With the headset resting on my desk near the K3 the LED in not lit, but
if I touch the headset the LED lights.
With the mic jack unplugged the LED does not light.
I've examined all jacks and lines
Seems like some sort of capacitance issue maybe.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

73,
Bryan

Re: K3s tx LED issue, need help

Don Wilhelm
Bryan,

I would first check the mic wiring for a broken or otherwise faulty
ground wire.

How is your Heil headset connected to the K3S?  Mic jack using the
Heil AD1K adapter or directly to the rear panel (3.5mm) mic jack?

Heil are *notorious* for incorrectly wiring their adapters
(mic ground and PTT ground reversed and/or mic ground connected
to the shell of the Foster plug).  If you have the AD1K adapter,
check it carefully!  Also, make sure you are not using the
extra high gain preamp - the Heil dynamic mics have enough drive
to work with RP.H/FP.H settings (the + is not needed and BIAS should
be OFF).  Heil's iC (electret) element works with RP.L/FP.L BIAS.
