KAT100 Query

Glenn McNeil-2
G'Day Guys,

I've got a situation that I cannot find the answer to.

I have a K2/100 that I now have ( was performing HF Serive only until
recently ) interfaced with a XV50/XV144/XV432 and a KAT100 and Computer. As
an HF performer, it was and still is great. As a stand alone K2/100
interfaced with the XV's it was and still is fine. Now...hooking up the
whole shebang, with a load on Ant Term 2 on the KAT100, when I Tx on the
XV's, the SWR LEDS light up on the KAT100. Switching to Ant Term 1 on the
KAT100 ( No  Load ) and the SWR LEDS light right up..the whole lot, as there
is no load...but that is what has me stumped !

I thought that as I am using the original, low power output BNC Connector of
the K2/100 to drive the Transverters, and the radio has been told that all
XV selections are a max of 5 watt output, the K2 would only output RF from
that BNC socket. I have the Power Control set to 5W when using the XV's. It
would appear that RF is obviously coming out the Type N Socket ( I changed
from an SO239 ) on the KPA100. The XV's appear to be getting enough drive,
as they Tx normally and the LEDS on their repective front panels all light
up to around the 20w mark.

I have re read the KAT100 Manual, and no clues in there, and my menu
selections appear to be OK. I want to use the radio from 3.5 Mhz right
through to 432 Mhz, which I should be able to do. All appeared "normal" till
I added the KAT100...or forgot to change some menu setting ???

Hi, Glenn:

The Owner's Manual will show you to connect the transverters to the output
of the KPA100, even if you're set to an output of 5 watts (see Figure 2 on
page 6 of the Owner's Manual).

When you set the power to 10 watts or less the KPA100 is in bypass, but the
RF is still routed to the large connector on the KPA100, not to the BNC.

Oops...typing too fast and stumbled over my words, Hi.

Clearly the RF IS available at the BNC, but that's not where you're expected
to attach the load. Ignore the BNC and use only the large Type N connector
on KPA100.

Glenn,

Once the KPA100 is installed, you must connect all output to the KPA100
SO239 jack - do not use the BNC antenna jack anymore.  That is what the boot
for the BNC connector is all about - put it on that BNC jack and leave it
there.

The only way around avoiding changing the connecion path from the KAT100
input to the transverters is to install the K60XV and use the low power
output from the K60XV.
