So I'm building a KAT100 tuner and everything is going
along fine until I get to T1 and RFC2. According to the manual T1 is supposed to be wound on a FT50-43 core (.5 in.) and RFC2 on an FT37-43 core (.37 in.). Unfortunately all I have left in the kit are two .5 inch cores, one dark grey, the other painted red. So I'm planning on winding T1 using the dark grey .5 in. core. Do any of you experts out there think there would be any harm in winding RFC2 on a slightly larger core (.5 in. red)? Or should I go back to Elecraft and wait for a replacement? Your input is appreciated. Stephen __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Stephen,
Use the dark gray core to wind T1 - it should be the proper core. Check again for a dark gray core that is a bit smaller 0.37 inches diameter. If you cannot locate it, ask for one from Elecraft for use at RFC2. The red core is normal for powdered iron cores and likely is a T50-2. It is not suitable for use as an RF Choke, you would have to wind a LOT of turns on it to obtain the correct inductance. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] > [mailto:[hidden email]]On Behalf Of Stephen Okolita > Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2006 4:38 PM > To: [hidden email] > Subject: [Elecraft] KAT100 RFC2 core. > > > So I'm building a KAT100 tuner and everything is going > along fine until I get to T1 and RFC2. Stephen,
You should check very carefully the cores you used previously to make sure they are correct. The cores you use MUST be as indicated in the builder's manual. de Joe, aa4nn' ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stephen Okolita" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2006 4:37 PM Subject: [Elecraft] KAT100 RFC2 core. > So I'm building a KAT100 tuner and everything is going > along fine until I get to T1 and RFC2.
