KAT100 Relays?

Darrell Bellerive
Are the relays in the KAT100 the latching type or do they draw current as long
as they are in the operated state?

Darrell,

The relays in the KPA100 and KAT100 are NOT latching.  Latching relays are
used in the K2 and the KAT2 to reduce current draw.

As I recall, the thought process was that those operating at the 100 watt
level would be using a power supply that would produce at least 17 Amps, and
a few extra milliamps to keep the relays pulled in would not be a major
concern - as opposed to the base K2 (and KAT2) which is designed for low
current and therefore uses latching relays.

Hi Darrell,

The KAT100 uses very rugged conventional relays. This improves
reliability and switching speed, and makes the drive circuitry more
robust at high power. We've actually tested these relays at a 3:1 SWR
at 1 KW.

...hmmm..  I don't see a KPA1000 on the website.

Mark,

I wasn't suggesting the KAT100 could be used with a KW amplifier
(whether or not one exists). I was just pointing out how rugged its
relays are  ;)
