KAT3 tuner and KXAT100 tuner specs question

W0FK
The KAT3 used in the K3 and KXAT100 tuner used in the KXPA100 amp appear to have the same specs "on paper." Both handle 100 watts and up to a 10:1 SWR (KXPA100 lists 5:1 on 160 and 6, unsure about the KAT3).

What are the differences between the two tuners, if any?

Re: KAT3 tuner and KXAT100 tuner specs question

Don Wilhelm-4
The KAT3 tuner fits inside the K3 (with and without the KPA3) while the
KXAT100 tuner fits inside the KPA100 amplifier.
Order the one which fits inside whichever unit you have.  Two very
different form factors - these are not stand-alone tuners.

Suspect mostly packaging.  I've wondered the same thing.

Re: KAT3 tuner and KXAT100 tuner specs question

I already own both Don. My question was more theoretical in nature.

There is a practical side to my question as well, as I am deciding whether to take my K3/100 or my KX3/KXPA100 combo on a vacation trip. Size and weight is roughly comparable, and I have no intention to operate without AC power. One of the questions in my decisoin tree involves the specs of the tuner, and I could find very little to use to compare the two.

Re: KAT3 tuner and KXAT100 tuner specs question

Phil Wheeler-2
I'd take the K3/100, Lou -- assuming you have no
plans to operate QRP portable away from AC power.
The K3's receiver is more robust and there should
be no thermal issues if you decide to use any 100%
duty cycle modes. Plus one box is easier to deal
with, in terms of cables and such.
