The current firmware version for the KAT500 is apparently MCU 1.67. To access it requires the KAT500 Utility version 14.2.20. That, however, seems to be available only for Windows. The latest utility version for Mac OS X on the website is 1.14.2.1. When I run that, the latest firmware version it finds is 1.41. Unfortunately 1.41 seems not to give the KAT500 the capability of tracking the frequency setting from the K3 as it tunes - with F/W 1.41 retunes only on the first dit. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to get 1.67 using a Mac (short of installing Windows on the Mac)?
Thanks for whatever advice might be offered . . . Are WINDOWS PC's banned from your household?
Certainly you know somebody who owns a WINDOW's laptop. If the situation were reversed and I needed an APPLE computer for a few minutes to install new firmware, I'd beg or borrow one. 73 de Brian/K3KO On 6/1/2014 22:28, Dauer, Edward wrote: > The current firmware version for the KAT500 is apparently MCU 1.67. Ted,
I have a Mac, I have a KAT500, and I have MCU 1.67 installed on my KAT500 and I am using the KAT500 Utility program version 1.14.2.1. Everything works hunky dory. Now, I am not sure why the Elecraft web page suggests 1.14.2.20 except for the fact that it does denote the latest Windows release. The difference between the .1 and .20 at the end of the Windows versus Mac releases may refer to a build number which is a common thing to include in the version identification (having been a programmer for almost 50 years). So, these different numbers may mean different builds which is not unusual since I think the software for the Windows versus the Mac (and Linux) are done by two different people -- or, at least it used to be two different people. And, their build cycles could easily be different (and likely to be different). But, from my experience you can load 1.14.2.1 utility and use that to load up MCU 1.67. 73, phil, K7PEH On Jun 1, 2014, at 3:28 PM, Dauer, Edward <[hidden email]> wrote: > The current firmware version for the KAT500 is apparently MCU 1.67. There should be no reason that Ted should have to borrow a PC in order
to update the firmware in his KAT500. The OSX utility should have the same functionality as the Windows version. In any case, there's also no reason he should have to put up with a lack of courtesy when asking a question on the reflector. Ted- Did you try searching for the firmware manually? 73, Scott, N9AA On 6/1/14 6:35 PM, Brian Alsop wrote: > Are WINDOWS PC's banned from your household? > > Certainly you know somebody who owns a WINDOW's laptop. > > If the situation were reversed and I needed an APPLE computer for a > few minutes to install new firmware, I'd beg or borrow one. > > 73 de Brian/K3KO > > On 6/1/2014 22:28, Dauer, Edward wrote: >> The current firmware version for the KAT500 is apparently MCU 1.67. >> To access it requires the KAT500 Utility version 14.2.20. Sad but true, Brian -- and not so much with
Elecraft who do provide support for Windows, OS X and Linux. I purchased a really inexpensive ($280) HP laptop for my shack, even though I mostly use MacBooks: There's just too much Windows software for ham radio out there to not have Windows available. All KAT500 Utilities versions for Windows, Mac and Linux should be able to fetch and install current firmware. Try clicking Copy Files from Elecraft, and it should get the current production firmware from our FTP server to your local computer file system. If it does not, you can use your web browser to copy files from ftp://ftp.elecraft.com and navigate to KAT500/firmware. Once you have the files in a folder on your local computer, use the KAT500 utility firmware tab browse button to move to that folder location.
New KAT500 utility versions add dialogs for new firmware functions. But you can do all the new things with an older utility with the command tester and the KAT500 serial command reference. 73 de Dick, K6KR > On Jun 1, 2014, at 15:28, "Dauer, Edward" <[hidden email]> wrote: > > The current firmware version for the KAT500 is apparently MCU 1.67. I'm currently encoding the build date as the version #. 1.14.2.1 was built on February 1, 2014.
Often W4SMT uses the same version number for equivalent function, even if it's done later. Guys,
I apologize if my posting offended anybody. This is not such a far fetched question. In fact my son-in-law has such a household. It made video chats with our 4 year old grandson a real problem. Be careful, Brian. I bought one for my cousin to
use, an iBook, back in 2005. He passed away before I was able to give it to him. I started using it just to see what the fuss was all about. I was hooked -- and none of my MacBooks have cost less than 2 kilobucks as outfitted. Beware :-) My main MacBook is dual-boot into Windows 7. There's just too much software I use tethering me to the Windows world. 73, Phil W7OX On 6/1/14, 4:38 PM, Brian Alsop wrote: > Guys, > > I apologize if my posting offended anybody. > > This is not such a far fetched question. Like Phil, I run exclusively Macs in the house. there are some Windows
PC's here (a laptop that I never use and an old desktop.) When I was starting to program my radios via the computer, I threw a Windows in a VM for programming purposes. I now use that rather than a dedicated Windows machine. I've never had a problem. I'll probably use my iMac as the station computer because it's sitting here and I can. One thing I've never understood is why people think that Apple and Mac or Macintosh need to be typed in all capital letters... As do I, and I have for years, running XP prior to Win 7. I run about 3 dozen RTS programmers, several scanner & R/C apps, the Elecraft utility (thought the Mac version works fine natively) a m/c helmet comm system setup app and a few others. No problems whatsoever. All look great on my 15" Macbook Pro Retina, and because of its high resolution, I can have two full pages displayed side by side with good readability.

Windows 8 license ran me somewhere around $100. 73, Steve KS6PD ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
