Using my K3 and other Radios thru my KAT500 at powers under 100 watts, I have the following problem:
While transmitting at swr's under 1.5, the Tuner will go haywire & try to retune & go into the tune mode.. Lots of relay clattering….. I have to stop transmitting & go into normal tune mode & re-memorize the frequency. Antennas are End Fed Zepps. I have the same problem with my KAT500, mainly on 160m.
My problem is my antennas sit on a 26'x150' apartment building roof and are to close together. I have done all the Choke/Balun fixes I could. The fix for me is to get the antennas tuned using AUTO, then when I operate I switch to MAN. It seems to stop the random re-tunes caused by rf coming back into the shack on the other feedlines. so I would suggest you first do all you can to choke of that stray rf then try in MAN and see if that helps with your particular situation. ymmv On 9/23/2013 8:35 AM, Sid Leben wrote: > Using my K3 and other Radios thru my KAT500 at powers under 100 watts, I have the following problem: > > While transmitting at swr's under 1.5, the Tuner will go haywire & try to retune & go into the tune mode.. > Lots of relay clattering….. Sound like you are having a bad case of "Common Mode Current"

I'm having similar issues but swapping the 1:1 common mode choke (balun) for a 4:1 will fix it for me.
