So....what the heck has happened to the KAT500?

We revised the PCB one more time to make it easier to manufacture.
Should have these "final" (we hope) boards in by next week. If all goes well, we'll be down to one final impediment: me. I have to revise the sheet metal drawings. Sorry for the delay. Patience is a virtue!
I recall on a long plane trip between North Carolina and California, the XYL was getting restless from being in the same cramped plane seat for so many hours - I finally wrote "patience" in very small letters on a small piece of paper and handed it to her with the words "now you have a little patience"! 73, Don W3FPR On 3/8/2012 5:48 PM, Fred Bennett N9TA wrote: > So....what the heck has happened to the KAT500? > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Have you any idea of pricing? And will it be kit or assembled?
And thanks for the info....this IS me being patient. With my antennas I can use the KPA500 on small bits of only three bands! 73 ____________________________________________ -----Original Message----- From: Wayne Burdick [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Thursday, March 08, 2012 6:01 PM To: Fred Bennett N9TA Cc: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KAT500?? Wayne,
I, for one, would rather wait and know I am getting the best that Elecraft can offer; design, component, & price wise. I've seen too many jobs/products rushed into to meet the market demand, only to have problems down the road and end up doing a re-design. 73 de Jim - KE8G -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Wayne Burdick Sent: Thursday, March 08, 2012 6:01 PM To: Fred Bennett N9TA Cc: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KAT500?? Don't let the KAT500 cut into your on-air time!

Pretty good catch on 12 watts. I just checked my log book, no entries for yesterday and the day before. Been busy so I am going to go find someone on 40 meters -- maybe around 7.030 or so.

I took my K2 along on a recent cross country ski trip to a century old log
cabin located north of Steamboat Springs. Running 3 watts into a four feet per side square loop antenna hung from the clothes pegs INSIDE the cabin, I worked Texas, Idaho and Washington on 30m. There was four feet of snow on the ground outside the cabin. Now that made my day! 73 Mike, AI8Z ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

My guess is that this was about an hour after sunset in California, and just before
sunrise in ZS. I have noticed really good conditions on this path and this time, even with my low-ish dipole on 40 -- apparently signals arrive at high angles. The opening is pretty short, so Wayne must have hit it just right. The opening is there on 80, too.
