I have the KBT2 battery mounting hardware for my K2, but so far no battery.
The Elecraft 2.9 AH gel-cel battery costs $30.00. Unless someone convinces me, I don't see any point in transporting a battery across 9 time-zones, when similar batteries seem to be available locally. But that's the question, is a battery a battery? I can get a 2.6 Ah battery with the same measurements for about $15.00 (NOK 90) from one vendor and I can get another one for about $40.00 (NOK 260 - Asahi, Made in China). I would guess that these batteries may have different life expectancies, but I can live with that. But, do I take a risk with my K2 if I install the cheaper battery - leakage, explosion ..., i.e. what should I look for? 73 Sverre LA3ZA Unofficial Guide to K2 Modifications http://www.qslnet.de/member/la3za/K2/mod.html -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. I bought also a battery (2.2 Ah Panasonic here) from a local dealer for the same reason. ;o) > > But, do I take a risk with my K2 if I install the cheaper battery - leakage, > explosion ..., i.e. what should I look for? No, if you don't over charge the battery it will be very old in your K2. My battery is now over 6 years. And it's young, fresh and in good condition. -- 72/73 de Ingo, DK3RED - Don't forget: the fun is the power! Sverre,
The only thing I can say is that the battery used in the K2 is a Panasonic (1229 I recall), and would be built to whatever quality standards and considerations that are characteristic of that manufacturer and battery line. Certainly with any battery there is a risk of leakage, explosion, etc., but most SLA batteries are pretty rugged. While I cannot make any real recommendations, it sounds like you know what to look for in terms of battery safety aspects, so read the specifications and literature for those parameters and base your decision on that research. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > I have the KBT2 battery mounting hardware for my K2, but so far > no battery. > The Elecraft 2.9 AH gel-cel battery costs $30.00.
