C13, C14 Values RF board K2?

Tom Althoff
In reply to this post by Tom Althoff
I'm experiencing low (7-8 watts) output on 160M on my used K2.  All other
bands run 12-18W.  In manually inspecting each component for proper value I
notice that the caps for C13 and C14 in my unit are labeled .001M.   Now
that would be 1,000pf. +/-20%, as low as 800pf or as high as 1200pf (if 20%
error..maybe they are 10%?).   Are these the original caps or am I once
again facing part substitution by the previous 160M option builder?

Rich Lentz
The Correct values are 1200 pf.  Do you have the manual? Have you downloaded
the PDF file from Elecraft?  If not you should and probably start by
following the instructions for "160 Alignment" on page 9.

Rich,
KE0X

Re: C13, C14 Values RF board K2?

Tom Althoff
Thanks to you and Don W3FPR.   Someone has been in this rig and has these
ceramic caps scattered throughout the rig.  C153 was 180pf ceramic (now the
proper 100pf).  C75 was wrong,  and now C13 and C14 too.

I'm going to order new 1200pf caps from Elecraft on Monday.   I have the
original manual and the latest one.  Just finished the last of the mods (VFO
ALC and KEYCLICK).   The 160M low power problem is the last of my efforts to
get this equal to a brandy-new 4,000+ serial # K2.

If I can get the KPA100 and get it built and tested before the ARRL 160M
contest in Dec I'll be a very happy camper.

Wonder which gives me greater bragging rights...saying I built a K2 or
repairing and upgrading one that someone else built? 8-)

Again...I'm very thankful that this group is here for support!
