How about in a RTTY contest where most SS amps need super high fan speeds to
keep cool? John Ed Muns wrote: This is one of the downsides of the KPA1500. Unlike other amps, it feels like QRP when it's putting out 1.5 KW. John,
The KPA1500 fans are relatively quiet - they move a lot of air at lower fan speeds. However, the power supply fans put up a bit of noise, so shipment was delayed while the fans for the power supply were reworked with larger fans to keep it quiet. I have only heard the fans while visiting the Elecraft lab, so take the information provided by K6XI's eham review as a better authority than my comments. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/15/2018 7:34 PM, [hidden email] wrote: > How about in a RTTY contest where most SS amps need super high fan speeds to > keep cool? ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
The ship date was moved again to late January to the first of February after
Wayne decided the fans on the RF deck needed to be reworked the same way as the fans on the power supply. 73, Mark, WB9CIF -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Don Wilhelm Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2018 12:52 AM To: [hidden email]; 'Elecraft Reflector' <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500 Review on eHam John, The KPA1500 fans are relatively quiet - they move a lot of air at lower fan speeds. With all the anticipation of shipment of the KPA1500, I'm reminded of a
Marine BG who had been on our case to propose a faster delivery schedule. I finally told him, "Sir, old engineering maxim, 'Good, Fast, Cheap, choose two'." He went with "good" and "cheap." Marines always seemed to make the most out of the least money. 73, Fred ["Skip"] K6DGW Sparks NV DM09dn Washoe County On 1/15/2018 6:21 PM, Mark E. I guess we should be glad he insists on getting it right before shipping. I will content my self with the 500 for now. It really does all I need done anyway, just would like the extra power since I downsized from the Collins S line with the 30S1.

Not an issue with the KPA1500. That's my point.
