After reading about the Tokyo Hi-Power HL-550FX review in the March, 2013
QST, I realize how much the KPA500 really shines. The review states the 550FX: 1) Needs 50 to 80 watts of drive power (depending on band). 2) Protection circuit will not reset for at least 5 minutes. 3) Two SO-239 sockets on back (transceiver and antenna). 4) Rotary band switch. 5) Analog panel meter. 6) High speed mechanical relays that can keep up with full break-in in CW QSK up to at least 35WPM. 7) $3000.00 price tag. This is a real bargain, ain't it!!! Yes. For the power you cannot beat the KPA500. I would own one, if I
didn't already own a very nice 1.5 KW amp. I only collect radios, Elecraft, but not amps. 73, Bill K9YEQ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Roy Morris Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2013 8:27 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] KPA500 Shines! Saw the review a moment ago and had the same thought. Worked JT5DX a minute ago with R5 vertical and the KPA500 @ 600W. I'm very happy with it And will buy another one for second radio in the future.

Exactly. For those who can't do beams, etc., deal with what we have, the
1.5KW does a lot. Personally, I prefer QRPp which is my first love, and the antennas are what I can do.
