Hello all,
Today I upgraded the KPA500 from V 1.18 to V 1.23. I now note the following problem: The amp does not go to standby on any band change. I went back to 1.18 to test this (it worked as described) and back to 1.23 (won't drop to standby). So I am currently on 1.18 again. Is anyone else seeing this problem? Rick,
I am running KPA500, F/W Ver 1.23. Oper/Stby is working fine here. Have you checked if KPA500 Menu item "Band Chg" is set to "STBY"? In STBY either band changes on the K3 or KPA500 work fine, putting the 500 from OPER to STBY. If Band Chg is set to "NOR", the 500 stays in OPER with either K3 or 500 band changes. Hi again,
I see that I wasn't clear enough for some folks as a few here and private email have said a similar thing. So here is the issue: SOMETIMES with v 1.23 firmware, when changing bands, the amp will not drop into standby mode. This setting is to protect the station from operator brain fade or inattention. The actual sequence of events appears to be unique to cause this. I am working with Elecraft on this and results are (of course) promising. To get a response on the same day from any company is amazing. They must sleep as little as I manage. ;o) While more testing is needed (and on the new, unreleased code) if anyone has this issue, try a FULL KPA500 power down starting from the front power switch (wait for the fan to stop) and including the rear switch (count to ten, then fire it all back up) after the firmware update. It may help, it may not but new code is on the way. So far, the complete power cycle has resolved the issue but we're still testing to find the (subtle) cause. 73, Rick wa6nhc -----Original Message----- From: Bill Hammond I have KPA500 with 1.23 and KAT500 at 1.18 with radio at 4.60 with no standby issues with the amplifier. 73, Bill AK5X On Jan 31, 2013, at 11:22 PM, Rick Bates wrote: > > Hello all, > > Today I upgraded the KPA500 from V 1.18 to V 1.23.
