I recently assembled a KRC2 decoder for use with my K3, and I cannot get
it to decode the 6-meter band. Unfortunately, almost all of the Elecraft documentation is oriented toward use of the KRC2 with the K2 rather than the K3. My PIC is labeled "KRC2 1.5" (so it has the version 1.5 firmware code that is supposed to work with the K3), and the Elecraft KRC2 Download Utility V1.1 returns "KRC2 V1.5;" when the GET F/W REV button is clicked. From what I have read on earlier posts to this forum, the XV1 terminal should go to 12 volts when the K3 is on the 6-meter band, but it remains at zero volts (the 160 through 10 meter outputs do go high correctly as the K3 is tuned from band to band). I have also seen mention of version 1.6 firmware for the KRC2 on other posts, but I can't find that on the Elecraft web site. Is there really a version 1.6? So, what is the trick to make the KRC2 work correctly with a K3 on 6 meters, and how should it play when I install the K144XV 2-meter option? Walt,
It may be that you need version 1.6 of the KRC2 firmware - but I will wait for Jack Brindle to answer with certainty. The last I heard is that the release of version 1.6 was delayed by the late discovery of a minor bug. Yes, 6 meter support was reported to be available in version 1.5, but I think that same bug which delayed 1.6 may be the culprit. Jack will likely respond with better information than my "hearsay" recollections. 73, Don W3FPR Walter Miller, AJ6T wrote: > I recently assembled a KRC2 decoder for use with my K3, and I cannot get > it to decode the 6-meter band. Walt;
You have to tell the K3 to output the 6-meter indicator for the KRC2. Go to the KRC2 menu entry on the K3. I believe you then need to tap the '1' button on the K3 to have it select the 6-meter selector. The alternative has the K3 select the 10 meter selector when tuned to 6 meters. The operation is described in recent versions of the K3 manual. Once the K3 is set to output the 6 meter selector when tuned to 6 meters, the KRC2 will enable the XV1 pins for that band.
