Hi Everyone,
My K3 (#371) has the KRX3 installed and is sharing the same antenna with the primary receiver. Since it was installed I have noticed that the sub-Rx audio volume is down compared to the main receiver requiring my to run the AF for the sub-RX about 20% higher than the main receiver audio. Since installing Beta 2.67 and using the new audio balance feature with the sub receiver audio control, I notice that I cannot get a balance between the two receivers without running the sub-RX audio control at the 2-3 o'clock position. Is the common? Perhaps due to the 3 db splitter for the sub-Rx? Am I missing something? Any thoughts? Not a biggie, but I am curious. BTW the new balance feature is pretty neat. Same here, but it was more like the 1-2 o'clock position. The problem? The outer knob skirt was not positioned on the shaft correctly during my construction. This may have nothing at all relevant to your problem, but to rule out a similar occurrence, rotate the Sub volume skirt (balance) and ensure that the white index line on the knob rotates the same distance from center when turning the control full CW, then again full CCW. Dave, I noticed a very small difference, but it's so very small and actually
never noticed it until you mentioned it. 73 de KE4WY Jim -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of David and Dianne on Comcast Sent: Saturday, November 22, 2008 5:51 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] KRX3 Audio Seems Down a Bit from the Main Rx Hi Everyone, My K3 (#371) has the KRX3 installed and is sharing the same antenna with the primary receiver. Hello Dave,
Yes I am having a similar problem with my K3 Sub Rec trying to share the same antenna with the main receiver. I was just getting ready to e-mail Elecraft Tech Support with a request for help. I will now post this request for information here first. My K3 (0166) WAS factory built and the sub receiver factory installed. I have not yet gone inside. My Sub receiver Audio worked very well at first but the Audio started to drop to less than 05% of the main receiver audio on some operating sessions. Because the Sub Audio worked fine at times (even with Beta 2.67) I assumed that I had a CONFIG Menu problem where the Sub Receiver was not getting an RF signal from the Main Antenna. I also thought that HamRadioDeluxe might have changed the CONFIG Menu when it shut down. Bottom line for me is that now my Sub Receiver audio is about 05% as strong as the Main Receiver audio (it was perfect a few days ago). 73, Harrison W8YMO --------------------------------------------- ----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] [mailto:elecraft- > [hidden email]] On Behalf Of David and Dianne on Comcast > Sent: Saturday, November 22, 2008 5:51 PM > To: [hidden email] > Subject: [Elecraft] KRX3 Audio Seems Down a Bit from the Main Rx > > Hi Everyone, > > My K3 (#371) has the KRX3 installed and is sharing the same antenna > with > the primary receiver. In K3 firmware revision 2.67 we introduced a new feature that may have
some bearing on this issue: independent sub receiver antenna selection for diversity vs. non-diversity. It may have defaulted to AUX in either case. If you didn't have an antenna connected to the sub's AUX input, you would have no input signal for the sub receiver. If you want the sub receiver to use share the MAIN antenna path, just go into BSET and tap ANT until you see MAIN. You can set this up differently for diversity and non-diversity use of the sub receiver. The K3 will store both settings. A related feature also added in rev 2.67: if the sub receiver is turned on, holding RX ANT will alternate between AUX and MAIN for the sub's antenna. This is faster than using BSET. 73, Wayne N6KR _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
