KX1 Question

Curron HILL
Have all the bugs (if there were any) been worked out of the Kx1 80-20 meter
radio upgrades.  I was thinking of building another Kx1, this one with 80
meters, but wondered if add the testing had been completed.

Did anyone use a 80/40/30/20 for field day?  How did it work?

What is the output on each band with 13.8vdc input?

Don,

All known bugs have been worked out with the KXB3080.  Just do not ignore
the errata sheet that instructs you to change L3 to 18 turns, and install
the 2 resistors for the power mod.

Power output with a 13.8 or 14 volt supply is typically 4 watts or more on
80, 40 and 30, and 20 meters usually comes in at about 3.5 watts.  This has
been consistent over the 14 that I have dealt with so far.

Hi, Don:

There have been no issues regarding the KXB3080 for some time now. There
were a couple of issues that became clear only after the test group had
wrung out their units and a much larger number of people started building
the kits. Those were quickly corrected in typical Elecraft manner.

To answer your output power question, the specification is 3 to 4 watts at
12 VDC. With a 13.8 VDC supply, my KX1 w/ KXB3080 delivers:

80 Meters: 3.8 Watts
40 Meters: 3.3 Watts
30 Meters: 4.2 Watts
20 Meters: 3.6 Watts

So that's a range of just 1 dB from the highest band output (30 meters) to
the lowest band output (40 meters).

I was working Saturday and Sunday. Field Day is one contest I try to
participate in, even if in a small way, but not for me and my Elecraft gear
this year, sigh!
