KX1 RX Sensitivity on 20M vs 30M, 40M

Michael Babineau
Have others noticed less RX sensitivity on the KX1 on
20M as compared to 40M and 30M?

I recall that this was noted in the QRP Quarterly review
of the KX1 a little while back and I have also noticed this
on my own rig, so I am guessing that this is normal.

Sensitivity is still sufficient on 20M but requires
cranking the AF Gain a little higher on 20M
than the other bands to get a similar signal
volume.

P.S. This came to my attention again last night as I had
to realign the Rig after finally getting around to installing
the 30M module. BTW For such a little board the KXB30
was a real pain in the you-know-where to install!

P.P.S I also put the Elecraft supplied sticker over the opening
on the KXPD1 and it now looks much better !

kx1 kxb30 install and torroids

I knew I should have taken pictures of my kxb30 before I installed it.  Before
I started I had heard about nightmares installing this little gem.  But when I
got down to it I did not find it all that hard.  You just have to leave plenty
of wire and take your time and bend each one so that when it is in place ech
wire will slide straigh in to it's appropriate hole.  If I ever end up doing
one for someone else I will remember to take the pics.

The same goes for torroids.  The KX1 was my first set of torroids, and again, I
had heard how much people hate to wind them.  I was afraid mind were going to
turn out all sloppy and it was going to be a nightmare.  It really was not.  I
use heat shrink tubing in the hole to hold the turns in place from the inside
and a pair of foreceips to hold the starting end tight.  That is something else
I will take picture of the next time I do one.

These pics of course I will publish somewhere on the web for all to benefit.
