KX3 Anomaly

I am having an unexpected response from my KX3 and wonder if it portends  
some failure: in CW mode, when I hold the CMP/PITCH button down I hear the
tone,  the display briefly reads 500 Hz, then displays
HIGH CUR...this doesn't seem right.
Comments, inspiration, whatever?

Does it do this with headphones?  If using the speaker, maybe the level
is too high?

I had a similar thing happen recently, and resolved it with a bit of help
from Elecraft support. The problem is that the audio amplifier when using
the internal speaker can draw too much current due to high audio levels. In
my case I had the monitor level too high, so the key beeps caused HI CUR on
occasion. Solutions include turn down the levels some, use external
amplified speakers or headset.
