Hello,
just received my KX3. I tried to setup SSB according to the manual. I am not able to reach the rcommended 5 bars an the ALC meter with normal speech, only if i whistle some bars on the ALC meter are visible. I can hear my voice in the headphones. If i change mic gain the voice changes too. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance 73 HB9DOU Mathias ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Mathias,
Do you have bias turned on? Menu MIC BIAS parameter = ON. That is needed for the MH3 microphone. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/21/2012 1:40 PM, Mathias Krüger wrote: > Hello, > > just received my KX3. Hello Don,
BIAS is set to ON. The microfon is working, because i can monitor my voice an hear changes in loudness if i change Mic gain. I only can get the 5 bars when whistling in the mic. That means it is time for an email to [hidden email] - there are
no easy answers to your problem and it may involve additional measurements. While I could offer some guesses, working with support will give you a better path. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/21/2012 6:04 PM, Mathias Krueger wrote: > Hello Don, > > BIAS is set to ON. I have no problem - my mic gain is set to 40. That drives the ALC up to
5 bars with normal speech. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/22/2012 9:54 AM, Benny Aumala wrote: > Same problem here with s/n 1181. > MH3 output far too low. > > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Similar here. With MIC=31, CMP=16, MICBIAS=ON, my MH3 drives the KX3 to its
target power level with four bars of ALC, occasional fifth bar, occasional bar or two on the CMP scale. I also have VOX GN=10 for VOX operation with headphones. That setting should be irrelevant for PTT operation. Either way, the monitor audio sounds great and I get good audio reports. /Rick N6XI > > > On Wed, Aug 22, 2012 at 7:09 AM, Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> wrote: > >> I have no problem - my mic gain is set to 40. Mike
I also had this exact same problem. Only when I set the mic. gain to 40 did I get 4 to 5 bars and only when I was speaking very loud or whistling. I took my mic. apart and the element inside was partially blocked by the mounting rubber. I pushed it in all the way and this helped a bit. The biggest thing I did was to adjust the 8 band equalizer to give some gain in the middle frequencies. Now I have my mic gain set at about 30 and I get the 4 to 5 bars. Worked for me and my voice, your mileage may vary. Larry Naumann n0sa |
