KX3 Mic gain ?

Deni F5VJC
Well, I don't whisper but I hate to have to shout into a mic to provide
adequate drive. I'm well used to close talking a headset microphone,  I use
the CM500 all the time on my K3 and there is loads of mic gain in reserve.
I have the latest firmware 1.50 in the KX3 and I still find the mic gain is
maxed out to give (almost) the recommended ALC action. What is your ALC
showing? I have tried mic bias On and OFF with no apparent difference. I
set the compression as advised. It sounds fine but I feel there is not
enough mic gain. This is the same, as I said, with another headset mic. When
I have time I will try my CM500 on the KX3 to see what that does.

Anyone else seeing lack of audio drive on their KX3?

Hold down the push down the keyer/mic/pwr knob  to where it saws swr/rf
and turn it up and down till its at the mic gain level you need.

 Interested in this thread..
the KX-3 seems a tad low on TX audio gain.

I use the same mic/headsets on my K2 and K3 with
 stacks of audio.

Temp fix has been making an audio preamp
 powered from small battery

Tried using the +3.5 volt mic-bias supply but
got into all sorts of RF feedback problems. Didn't
pursue this, probably could be sorted out.

  cheers

KX3 needs a mic with a lot of gain such as the CM500 and other electret mics. My Heil headset with an HC-5 element won't cut it. Most dynamic mics will not either.

Can't get enough drive using a Heil HC4 (dynamic) mic which has relatively
low output but no problems with a Heil IC (electret) which has higher
output.
